Review 2314: Rome City Apartments, Royale
2bed/1.5bath apartment near Pantheon, Rome
August, 2006, 4 nights
The "Royale" apartment was located literally around the corner and down a street from the Pantheon, a perfect location for walking to all the major sites we wanted to see in Rome. It was in a private apartment building on a quiet street, on the top floor with a small elevator.
With the Pantheon so close by, there were many places to get coffee and food. There was a grocery store just off the piazza where we purchased cereal, milk, bread and cheese, and wine. There is an internet provider in the same block (not a cafe).
The apartment was like a penthouse! It was huge, with two bedrooms, one full bath, a small half-bath off the kitchen, a very large living area and a balcony overlooking the city. It was very clean.
No garden, but there was a small balcony overlooking the city toward the Victor Emmanual monument.
The furniture was in very good shape. The living room has a sofa bed that my son slept on. The sheets weren't clean on this bed, but we called the management company and they came over very soon to show us where to find the clean ones. There was a formal dining table in the large "great room" with six chairs. The main living area is decorated in orange - walls, sofas, etc. - so you'd better like that color if staying there!
The bedrooms were very nice, and the beds were comfortable. The website had stated that there were two bathrooms, but the second was really a very small half-bath which was fine for shaving, hair drying, etc. The full bath was very nice, and the shower had multiple jacuzzi jets and a radio.
The kitchen was quite adequate and well furnished. We did not cook any meals, but used the refrigerator a lot, and the microwave for breakfasts. There was also a washing machine that I used several times, since this was the last stop on our 2-week visit to Italy.
Problems or Bonuses
The apartment was even better than I expected! It was huge, had lots of room for us to spread out, and a lovely balcony where we could sit and watch the sunset (when were there in the evening!) The location was superb, and so close to so many places we wanted to go. The only "bad" surprise was that the second bath wasn't a full bath, which would have been nice since there were four of us. But that certainly wasn't a major deal in the big picture.
Agency and Representatives (and price)
Several travelers had reported bad experiences with this agency. However, we found a wonderful place to stay, managed by very professional and courteous people. Upon our arrival at the train station, we phoned the agency and were met at the apartment and given our tour & instructions. When we had a problem with the sofa bed sheets, they were quick to respond. I would not hesitate to use this agency again, and certainly would book this apartment if possible! We paid 200 Euros a night, which was less than our "quad" hotel room in Venice! This was a huge value for the money.
Do you recommend this vacation rental to others?
Absolutely! This was a fabulous apartment, amazing location, and definitely a place I'd stay again.
Things to do in this area
The Pantheon piazza is amazing at night, with great cafes and gelatto! We had dinner our first night at Zio Ciro, which was very reasonable and delicious, as well as being in a majical setting. Our other favorite restaurant was Gran Caffe' Rossi E Martini, across the street from the Colosseum, which is beautiful at night. We had dinner on our final evening there, and it was quite good, plus the waiters were wonderful!
