Vacation rentals in Italy (villas, farms, estates, agriturismo, apartments)
Review 2367: Tuscany Net, Le Manzinaie
apartments on estate near Montepulciano, Tuscany South
July 2006, 2 weeks
Le Manzinaie is located in Montelpucino Stationazie (a small suburb of Montelpucino). The restored farmhouse is located in a very private fenced off area, complete with pool and vegetable garden. It is a gorgeous location, and very easy to get to.
You would have to drive to the nearest grocery store, which was maybe a five minute drive down the road. Again very easy access. As for coffee, you could make it yourself in your kitchen, or Fiore (the husband) would come around often during the day and offer you espresso or cappuccino.
I don't really know if the building was historical, but they did a superb job of restoring it. They showed us the before pitures, and you had to marvel at all the work they have done.
Our particular unit was the smallest, I believe, of all the units. It was a one bedroom, one bathroom (and the bathroom was fabulous, they definitely catered to North American's in terms of the plumbing), plus a small kitchen with eating area.
There are four units contained within the main building. I believe two are one bedroom units and two are two bedroom units, but I could be slightly off on that. There was also a stand alone two bedroom little house, complete with two bathrooms and a kitchen and sitting lounge.
While we were there, they were also renovating another stand alone structure to be used as a three bedroom unit.
There were several great sitting areas. There was the pool, which was shared by the other guests. There were also two gazebo type structures which could be shared with the other guests, or used by yourself.
The furniture was in good shape, and comfortable. The apartment was very clean and there were enough chairs for the number of people registered in each room.
The bed was very comfortable, and the bedroom nicely decorated. The bathrooms were great even by North American standards. There was a large tub, jacuzzi style, a stand alone shower, and a large counter with two sinks.
The kitchen was small but functional. There were certainly enough accessories of good quality, however, because there was no air-conditioning it made cooking in the kitchen very hot.
Problems or Bonuses
The best surprise of all was how wonderful the family that owned Le Manzinaie were. When we arrived, they took us on a little tour of the premises and showed us our room, and how things worked. They had also stocked the fridge for us, because the next day was Sunday and most things were closed.
They also invited us and the other guests to a home cooked meal two or three times during our two week visit. And on one occasion when we got off to a very late start for the day, Fiore, the husband, came by the pool with sliced tomatoes from the garden and crostinis for a light lunch. It was a great treat.
The night Italy won the world cup, when we came home after watching the game in the local pizzaria, the family came down and offered us all champagne and cookies in the salon.
Agency and Representatives (and price)
There was no agency rep, and frankly if you go through Le Manzanie directly you will get an even better price.
They did offer us a 10% reduction because we stayed two weeks.
We paid the agency price and it was still only 1500 Euros for two weeks, which compared to some of the other places I was looking at, was very reasonably priced.
Do you recommend this vacation rental to others?
I would love to stay there again, and would highly recommend it to anyone. The family that own Le Manzinaie are wonderful, and add a local touch to your holiday that you could not find in a big hotel chain.
I promise you will not be disappointed with the experience.
