Review 2384: Sant' Antonio, Apartment

Review by Diane P from OH

apartments on an estate near Montepulciano, Tuscany South

Sept 16 - 23 2006, 1 week

Sant Antonio is a private estate located about 2 km from the city of Montepulciano. We thought the location was perfect. We were located far enough into the country to enjoy peace and quiet but close enough to several nice towns for day trips.

Nearby Amenities

We could not walk for coffee or groceries. The nearest restaurants were located about 2 km in the town of Montepulciano. The largest COOP store we found was located in Chianciano. It was a very easy 10 minute drive from the estate.

The House/Apartment

Our apartment was located in an estate that was formerly a Franciscan monastery. The estate was divided into about five buildings, housing the apartments. We stayed in apartment #7 which was very private and well suited our needs.

Outside our door was a nice table and chairs for dining, however within a few feet was a big outdoor patio with a large table and chairs with the best view. The large area was for everyone but it felt like our private patio. There was a wood barbecue on the patio but we did not use.

The pool was located about 300mt from our apartment. It was clean, large and nicely equipped. We did use the pool several days and it was very relaxing. The pool was surrounded by olive groves. The pool area had nice lounge chairs and tables.

Furnishings/Cleanliness/Living Areas

The apartment was just perfect! The living room/dining room/kitchen was one big room. It was plenty big enough for my husband and me. The kitchen table had four nice chairs and there was also a couch and two end tables with lamps.

The entire apartment was very clean and well cared for.

The bed was a queen size which was quite nice. The mattress and pillows were very comfortable. The linens and towels were top quality. The bedroom contained a nice dresser with four drawers and a large armoire with plenty of hangers. Each side of the bed had nice stand with a lamp for reading in bed.

The bathroom was nice. We had just a shower stall which was fine and a nice sink with a large mirror and plenty of good lighting.

The only complaint in the bathroom was the water heater. It would take a long time for the water to heat and then after it got hot it was hard to regulate the temperature during our showers. (This was a very minor inconvenience.)

I used the kitchen several nights for dinner. It had everything we could possibly want. The dishes and cookware were in good condition and we wanted for nothing. There was not an "American" coffee pot, instead there was a little pot that you made espresso on the stove. Didn't think I would like it, but now I actually miss that wonderufl strong coffee.

There was no oven or microwave, just a four burner cook top. I did not miss an oven or the microwave.

Problems or Bonuses

There were two nice surprises:

1. The owner, Nico was the most charming, caring young man we have ever encountered in our travels. He made us feel so much at home during our stay. Nothing was too much trouble. He spoke several languages fluently and his English was impeccable.

2. On Wednesday evening some of the employees of Sant Antonio offer a communal meal. The meal was delicious and very reasonable. We meet several couples that were also staying at the resort. It was a lovely evenig!!

We encountered no problems!

Agency and Representatives (and price)

I booked directly via the internet with Nico, the owner. The price for one week was 620E. If you wanted to use the internet, it was an addional 25E for unlimited usage.

Do you recommend this vacation rental to others?

We would love to stay at Sant Antonio again!!! We highly reccommend this place to anyone wanting a rental in southern Tuscany.

By the end of the week, we felt like family. It was hard to leave "our little apartment."

Things to do in this area

We had a brief visit to southern Tuscany several years ago and since then we wanted to go back and explore the area in more depth. This one week rental allowed us to visit many wonderful towns and since we were heading to Rome after the visit the location was perfect. We were very close to the A-1 highway and also a major train station.
