Review 2394: Rental in Florence, A351 Rosa Apartment
1bed/1bath apartment near Santa Croce, Florence
Sept. 11th to Sept. 16th, 2006, Five nights
We really enjoyed this apartment, and found it very clean and functional. The apartment is fully equipped with absolutely everything useful.
The washing machine comes with good instructions, and is in a small kitchen alcove with all the right dishes, pots, pans, and cutlery you would need for making a decent dinner should you cook there. We just had our breakfast there, but would have cooked if we had not found so many good restaurants nearby!
There is a computer with high speed Internet 24/7; and over 40 DVD movies, complete with hand written reviews for each, and what age group they are suitable for! These are copied versions, and all in Italian, but personally we enjoyed watching "Harry Potter" in Italian!
There is a great binder full of maps, bus timetables, and recommendations for activites and for the surrounding areas. Also in the binder are instructions for all the appliances, which is always handy.
The apartment is on the second floor of, I believe, three floors; and has no elevator, but the good part is that it is the only rental in the building, and is very safe. There are only two apartments on each floor, and we rarely saw anyone else on the stairs. The street door has a good lock and an intercom buzzer. The door into the apartment itself has a hefty lock, the likes of which we have never seen before, and would defy even the most clever burglar!!
There are corner windows in the living room so it is very airy and light. I noticed a big fan for hot weather, and a large heater for cold.
The only gripe we had was that the shower pan did not drain properly, and we had to keep clearing out the drain. I think this is a common problem in Italy, as we encountered it elsewhere on our trip. The bathroom is fine otherwise, and has a bench seat in the shower. There is plenty hot water, and great water pressure. There is also a hairdryer.
The apartment is located one block from a good sized Standa supermarket; and the post office is round the corner. It is about 10 minutes walk from the Duomo area; but wasn't too noisy at night. On the ground floor seems to be a commercial bakery, and every morning we could smell the baking croissants at about 06:00! Walking the other way from the apartment is the church of Santa Croce; and also, the Sant'Ambrogio street market is about 10-12 minute walk the other way too.
We were met by an agent of the owner, who waited for us even though our train was delayed from Rome by a medical emergency. He showed us all the workings of the apartment, and got us settled in; thank you Mr. N. There was fresh milk, cheese, salami and salad for us in the fridge on arrival.
We would definitely stay here again, we loved the fact that the building was so old, and so modern inside at the same time. The thing we most enjoy about rentals over hotels is having a washing machine! In hot weather, it means you can travel much lighter. Our friends were staying in a more luxurious B. and B. type apartment off the Plaza della Signoria, and were very envious of our washing machine!
We would highly recommend this apartment, and the agency that rents it out.
