Apartments just outside Siena, Tuscany Siena

When

April, 06, 1 week

Location

Located on a hilltop/ridge accross a valley from Siena. It is in a mixed/rural area across the street from a large apartment complex. Otherwise, surrounded by fields/pastures/farmland. Quiet area, free parking on street and underground garage.

Nearby Amenities

Nothing within walking distance. Nearest stores are down the hill to a village area with two or three restaurants, a convenience-type store, a few gas stations. There is a pizza place, terrible stuff, about 1/2 mile away, for emergency food. Other direction about 1.5 miles is a city street that runs to Siena, typical city businesses.

The House/Apartment

Consists of several building, quadruplexes. Very quiet area. Buildings well mintained, office open 9 to noon, 4 to 6 pm. Our apartment was bed, bath, kitchen. Others may be larger. I think that we had one of the cheaper units and that there are others that are larger.

Garden

There is a sitting area that over looks the valley toward the Duomo in Siena. Overlooks farm land, four-lane highway and some "sub-standard" housing on the Siena side of the valley. Area around apartments is paved with sitting areas.

Furnishings/Cleanliness/Living Areas

Apartment was clean. One overstuffed chair in the bed room. Kitchen is small, with three chairs at table. Mostly I cooked ravioli and vegetables from local market, fridge is apartment type. Bed is comfortable, the double bed was two twin mattresses.

Bedrooms/Bathrooms

Bed was comfortable, bath was small but everything worked.

Kitchen

Kitchen was small, furnished adequately, all burners worked, fridge was apartment sized, room for eggs, cheese, wine, etc.

Problems or Bonuses

No surprises. They tell you that Siena is within walking distance but you would have to be a mountain goat to get up and down the hill, like climbing a ski slope. Bus station is about 1/2 mile away, buses comes twice an hour. Walk is okay if weather is nice.

Agency and Representatives (and price)

Everyone spoke English. One woman spoke bettern English than me. She said she went to an English school in Rome. The other woman did not speak as well. Everyone was very helpful and cheerful.

Do you recommend this vacation rental to others?

I would stay here again if I was going to make a lot of day trips to other areas of Tuscany. It is near the highway and easy to get to. To get to Siena it either by bus or cab. We bussed in in the daytime and took a cab home at night, about 7-10 E. If I was only going to see Siena I would stay in town.

Things to do in this area

There is nothing to do in this immediate area (i.e., walking distance of the apartments).
