Review 2400: Italy Perfect, Flaminio

Review by Stacey from US

2bed/2bath apartment near Piazza del Popolo, Rome

September 2006, 1 week

The Flaminio apartment was in a very convenient Rome location. It's located just outside the Piazza del Popolo so we could easily walk to lots of the sites. The neighborhood has a mixture of apartment buildings and office buildings. Some of the buildings are old and attractive, there were some more modern, less-attractive office buildings probably built in the 1960's. We like the area a lot as it felt safe and was easy to get everywhere as there is a major bus hub only two blocks away at Piazzale Flaminio and the subway nearby too.

Nearby Amenities

There was a good place for coffee, pastries and sandwiches only one block away that we made full use of. They had a nice selection of prepared food for take-away as well that were delicious. There was also a tiny supermarket and ATM machine only one block away. There was another deli-style place for a quick bite and a couple of produce stands just a few blocks away. This was handy for dashing out for groceries or a snack. There were many good, fancier restaurants within easy walking distance too. We enjoyed an evening stroll to and from dinner given the quantity of delicious food!

The House/Apartment

The Flaminio apartment is in an art deco style building which we found to be very attractive. There is a doorman on during business hours who is friendly and helpful and he spoke some English. He even loaned us a city map one day when we couldn't find ours. The building was quiet and very clean, well maintained. There seemed to be some doctors' offices on the ground floor and probably only two apartments per floor. We were located on the top floor, and there was just one apartment across the hall. There was an elevator so stairs were not a problem.

There was a narrow balcony off the living room area which we thoroughly enjoyed. There were two sets of doors that open out onto the terrace, which made the apartment so bright and airy. We enjoyed morning coffee out on the terrace and since the evenings were balmy we had cocktails there at night. There is some muffled traffic noise in the distance which we learned is part of the "music" of being in the center of a historic city. We specifically wanted a place with a terrace and had a hard time finding one for our dates so we were delighted to find Flaminio. The terrace is not large, but long and narrow but it gave us just the amount of outdoor space that we wanted.

Furnishings/Cleanliness/Living Areas

We were pleased to find the apartment just as it was advertised! The place was clean and well furnished. New white sofas, a pretty antique dining table, nice decorative touches. Having two bedrooms and two bathrooms layed out the way they were was perfect for our family as the master bathroom is connected to the master bedroom. The second bedroom is on the other side of the apartment so gives good privacy. The second bathroom is off the living room.

Beds were comfortable and the place was quiet for sleeping at night. Good closet space in both bedrooms. Bathrooms were good too. The master bathroom was large. Lousy water pressure though but we understand that is a problem in many parts of room so nothing to be done about that. The second bathroom is small but the enclosed shower was practical.

Kitchen had everything we needed. We ate breakfast and usually one other meal at the apartment each day. Liked that fact that it had a good gas stove, refrigerator that is large for Italy, microwave and a drip coffemaker. Someone thought through all the details that a family would need for cooking meals. There was also a small supply of olive oil, vinegar, some seasonings which was nice to have.

Problems or Bonuses

We were pleased with the apartment and happy to find that it looked just like the website photos. The extensive amount of photos that Lisa, the agent, provides meant there was little guess work on what to expect.

Agency and Representatives (and price)

ItalyPerfect came highly recommended to us by friends who had booked with them. Lisa who runs ItalyPerfect was delightful to work with. She is very knowledgeable about Rome since she lived there for many years and gave us lots of tips on what to do. We felt she was very honest and reliable. Her local greeter was very cordial and welcoming too, greeting us with a little goody basket filled with yummy treats, bottled water and a bottle of wine. When we were looking for a place to rent we felt the Flaminio was a good value given the location and amenities and the helpful representative. We had inquired with other agencies about places and were disappointed by some with their lack of response or incomplete information.

Do you recommend this vacation rental to others?

Yes! We would stay at the Flaminio apartment again and have already recommended to several family members and friends who will be going to Italy. We are planning a trip to France next and will book through Lisa's sister at Paris Perfect as we hear good things about their apartments in Paris as well.

Things to do in this area

Loved walking through Piazza del Popolo very early in the morning when no one was out. Visited the church in the piazza, Santa Maria del Popolo, that has some beautiful Caravaggio's paintings. Our teenagers were more impressed by the fact that this was one of the grusome settings in the Angels & Demons book. Really liked the takeout lasagna and stuffed bell peppers and cheeses at the Castroni food shop near the apartment. Lisa at ItalyPerfect gave us a list of her favorite restaurants and we had many memorable meals. Our teenages liked all the trendy shopping very close by on Via del Corso and we enjoyed the cafes along this street for people watching.
