apartments in the Oltrarno, Florence WhenSeptember 24-30, 2006, 6 nights LocationThe Residenza Il Carmine is conveniently located near the Pitti Palace in Florence. The street it's located on is very narrow and not really suited for vehicles. The apartment is one of several that the owners have for lease. We liked the area very much, especially since the city center was overrun with tourists. Nearby AmenitiesSeveral markets and grocery stores were nearby, one just down the street. There were also several cafes and restaurants within walking distance. We located two Internet "stores" between the apartment and the Pitti Palace. There are also several pharmacies nearby. The House/ApartmentThe apartment was lovely, in good repair. This apartment is large, really, too large for just the two of us, although it was a nice luxury to have so much space for our use. The separate rooms allowed my husband to watch sports on TV while I rested in the bedroom, etc. GardenThere is a nice garden for your use. We shared a bottle of wine there one afternoon after a day of shopping. There is no pool. Furnishings/Cleanliness/Living AreasAll the furniture was in good shape. It was fairly comfortable, with the sofa being a sleeper, it was a bit hard. Bedrooms/BathroomsThe bed was large and fitted with nice linens. The thin lacy curtains allowed the daylight to seep in early in the morning, but it was not a problem. There was a 1/2 bath en suite and a full bath just off the living room. They were both clean and we had fresh towels (really bath sheets) replaced each day. KitchenThe kitchen was adequate for our needs, but I didn't cook any meals there. We used it mostly for coffee in the mornings and a light snack in the evening. The small refrigerator was a godsend for keeping drinks cool. Problems or BonusesNone. Agency and Representatives (and price)We were met at the front door by the owner and shown to our apartment. She was fluent in English enough to guide us through the apartment and show us where everything was and how the kitchen stove worked. We paid €125 per night. We thought it was one of the few bargains we found in Italy. Do you recommend this vacation rental to others?I would recommend this apartment to anyone who is looking for accommodations away from the crowds. It's a wonderful refuge in the middle of the chaos in Florence. This review is the opinion of a Slow Travel member and not of slowtrav.com. |
