Review 2432: Le Manzinaie, Apartment

Review by Don from Canada

apartments on an estate near Montepulciano, Tuscany South

Sept 30 to Oct 10, 2006, 11 days

My wife and I stayed at Le Manzinaie from Sept 30 to Oct 10, 2006. An absolutely wonderful Tuscan experience. All the rave reviews here and on their own website are true. A cousin had highly recommended it, thankfully we took her advice.

A great location. You need a car. Five minutes from Montepulciano Stazione, which has a couple of grocers, a butcher, a bank machine, a nearby gas station, various other shops and a coffee bar where all the local young guys park their motorbikes out front and sit outside looking for the next Sophia Loren to come by, take a picture.

Close to some excellent restaurants. Not far from Chiusi train station with connections to all of Italy. Surrounded by the famous Montepulciano and Cortona and and any number of equally beautiful not so famous or crowded small towns. Easy driving on breathtakingly scenic Tuscan roads.

The house is beautiful. Very clean. Very quiet. Very safe. Easy to park. Everything works, lights, stove, shower, etc., all in excellent condition. The bed is comfortable. There is ample room. The kitchen is well equipped, my wife shopped at the butcher and grocer in Montepulciano Stazione and cooked some great meals.

There is a lovely garden with a swimming pool, lounge chairs. A table & chairs under a trellis to sit and have breakfast, coffee, wine, tell your wife you love her, whatever.

What makes this place so special are the owners, Mariza and Fiore and their daughter Alice. Some years ago Mariza & Fiore bought this property as an old abandoned farmhouse and transformed it into this little bit of paradise. Their love and pride and joy in what they have created and their desire to have you love it too is irresistible. Beautiful people.

They have all the advice you need on visiting anywhere in this area. They all speak English, Alice is best. Once a week Mariza cooks a dinner, lost track of the number of courses, for all the guests, starts at eight and ends around midnight, wonderful food, wine and new friendships. Memorable experience.

My wife and I were in Italy for a month, from Rome to Serra San Bruno in Calabria to Tuscany to Florence and stayed in a lot of places. It does not get any better than this.

Stay here.
