Review 2440: Rental in Rome, Via Boschetto 147
2bed/1bath apartment near Colosseum, Rome
Sept. 12 - 19, 7 days
My husband & I and a friend rented a two-bedroom apartment in Rome from this agency from September 12 to the 18th. The service before arrival was excellent. Very fast response to all questions. I am going to be very fair in my appraisal of the apartment because some of this could have be resolved had I been able to get back in touch with the agency while there. At least I would hope so.
On arrival we had to wait outside the apt for about 30 minutes for the agent to come with the key. But then our plane was early, so we were early. My first impression of the place was not exactly favorable. It was hot and when the agent opened the windows, the noise from the street was unreal. Which was surprising because it was such a tiny street. So she called the agency and we spoke with Antonella and asked if there was some other place we could stay. She looked and then said there was only one and it was outside the city center, which was not what we wanted. The air-conditioning did cool off the place and that became a non-issue.
What we didn't see at first was that the place was filthy. My feet were black from walking on the floors (after a shower) bare footed. The beds were terrible. Maybe 2" thickness probably horse hair and lumpy.
We tried to call the agency and the phone that I brought with me didn't work. We went to a phone store and they sent us to out to find a public phone because I had an 800 number. The 800 number wasn't in service. I'm getting very frustrated at this point. I tried the regular number but we didn't have a phone card so we couldn't use the public phones without them. We just gave up. We didn't want to waste a day trying to get in touch with the agency and then be told that they would send a cleaning person and waste another day waiting for her/him. That still wouldn't have taken care of the beds. Or to be told that we would have to move to another place outside the city center. I know that had it been just my husband and myself, we would have moved to a hotel. But in this case it would have meant two hotel rooms and that just wasn't in the budget. So we toughed it out.
If anyone would like to see the pictures I have of the apartment they are at www.webshots.com/user/maxine2645.
The apartment we had was the Boschetto 147 near the Colosseum. The location was great. Not far from the Cavour Metro.
The agency was informed of my displeasure and have offered me a five-day free rental for my next trip to Rome. Of course they are not sending the plane ticket with that offer. As I don't have plans to return to that area of Italy in the near future, it's like giving ice to the Eskimos. Please understand that I'm not writing this report with any pleasure. I just feel that as the rental agency they should be aware of the condition of there rentals. They should be checked out for cleanliness, whether the beds are comfortable, etc. Other then the apartment, the rest of the trip was great.
