Review 2470: Le Manzinaie, Apartment

Review by Raymond from MD

apartments on an estate near Montepulciano, Tuscany South

1 Nov 06 to 9 nov 06, 8 days

This lovely restored farmhouse is located just outside the small town of Montepulciano Statzione. The house is situated on approximately two acres of beautifully landscaped grounds in the middle of plowed fields. It is very private. The area was perfect to use as a base to go out and explore Tuscany.

Nearby Amenities

Walking to anywhere is a problem in that country roads in this part of Italy don't seem to have sidewalks or shoulders. The nearest shopping for groceries, pharmacy service, etc., is approxrimately 5K in several directions. Several restaurants are also approxrimately 5K in several directions.

The House/Apartment

The owners have done a fantastic job of restoring this very old farmhouse. The workmanship is first class. To add to the decor the wife is an accomplished artist and has decorated each apartment with murals, extensive stenciling, etc. Being in the middle of a farm the quiet was not to be believed. The only thing we ever heard was the distant high speed train and then it was very faint. We were shown several of their other apartments which can handle different numbers of guests. Each unit was prettier than the last. I believe that there is a total of five units with an additional building being currently restored.

The grounds are done to create a private enclave. The pool is very large although we were there after the season so could not use it. There are facilities for outdoor eating and just lounging. These areas seem to be common although there were chairs scattered about where one could be alone.

Furnishings/Cleanliness/Living Areas

The furnishings would be described as farm/rustic, but in very good shape. The rooms were very clean and easy to keep clean. Since there were four of us in a unit designed for four (2bed/2bath) there were enough furnishings for all. The only complaint might be that electrical lights are of low wattage. Reading at night for elderly people could be a problem.

The beds were wonderfully comfortable and king size. The bathrooms were large and the showers excellent. Each bathroom contained a bidet.

Although the kitchen was complete we did not cook any large meals as we wanted to experience as many restaurants as possible. But, everything was there to cook a first class meal. And if something were needed the family lives on the property and is very accommodating.

Problems or Bonuses

We were amazed at the talents of the family which owns and manages these units. These folks are not your typical landlords. They have put their hearts and souls into making this a great place to enjoy Tuscany. The only downside surprise was the additional cost to heat the rooms. We were there in early November and needed to use some heat in the evenings and early mornings. Energy is expensive in Europe.

Agency and Representatives (and price)

We booked direct and everything was handled efficiently. Our hosts spoke English. Their website is excellent and portrays the units honestly.

Do you recommend this vacation rental to others?

We will stay there again in the future and would recommend Le Manzinaie as the place to stay while exploring central and southern Tuscany.

Things to do in this area

We visited one or more hill towns each day.
