Review by Philip from UK

3bed/3bath apartment near Taormina, Sicily

When

August 2006, 2 weeks

Location

The villa is located about six miles from Taormina on the road between Francavilla and Gaggi. It is located next to a wonderful restaurant called "A Cassita" and these are the only two buildings in the immediate area.

Nearby Amenities

A car is essential as there are no paths to the nearest town Gaggi and Sicilian driving is somewhat erratic. The restaurant next door is about 200 metres away.

The House/Apartment

The building is a few hundred years old, the decor is excellent and full of interesting artifacts that the owners Philip & Carmello have accumulated over the years. There is a good sized living/dining area, kitchen, bathroom, bedroom and hall on the ground floor with a hall and stairs leading up to two further bedrooms with en suites. All rooms are air conditioned. The villa is located next to a road so there is a little road noise at times but nothing to obtrusive.

Garden

The pool (shared with a maximum of six other guests if their accommodation is occupied) was excellent with ample seating, a barbecue area, and showering facilities. The terraced hillside behind had fig and lemon trees. The upkeep was excellent and the gardener visited every day.

Furnishings/Cleanliness/Living Areas

The furnishing was to a very high standard, the house clean and there were enough chairs to sit everyone at the table and in the living room. The kitchen also had a small table that could seat four people.

Bedrooms/Bathrooms

The beds were more than adequate and the bedrooms comfortable. Each bedroom had a bathroom although only two had a bath. They were very individually decorated and the overall effect was of thoughtful planning rather than a haphazard collection of cast offs that you can sometimes find.

Kitchen

The kitchen was more than adequate - and in Italy you don't really want to be doing a lot of cooking!

Problems or Bonuses

We had a great vacation at Due Angeli. Philip & Carmello were excellent hosts, full of information about the area and kind enough to book us some trips that we would otherwise have lacked the language to arrange easily. The short drive from the main road is VERY steep, and driving a nine-seat people carrier was a challenge - but we made it!

Agency and Representatives (and price)

Rentvillas were probably the most attentive and courteous travel agent I have ever encountered - probably because I live in the UK where customer service comes just below cleaning the lavatory in order of importance. It made a very pleasant change.

Do you recommend this vacation rental to others?

Absolutely - we fell in love with the place and the island!

Things to do in this area

Gole Alcantara the gorge nearby is worth a trip, Taormina is beautiful, busy and a total pig to find a parking place but well worth the effort. You can't visit without seeing Etna - ask Philip or Carmello to book a trip in a 4x4 for you - at 30-40 a head it was well worth it - and my kids thought it was one of the best days we had.
