Vacation rentals in Italy (villas, farms, estates, agriturismo, apartments)
Review 2492: Le Manzinaie, Apartment
apartments on an estate near Montepulciano, Tuscany South
Sept 2006, 7 nights
This was our favorite place that we stayed at in our month of travel in Tuscany/Umbria. We knew this place would be special from the moment we went though the gate – the estate was beautiful and well maintained and we were enthusiastically greeted by Marzia (mother) and Alice (daughter) as soon as we got out of our car.
It was the special details that impressed us and made us feel immediately comfortable with our surroundings. A well planned out information package detailing local towns, restaurants, wineries and grocery stores was provided as well as basic provisions in our apartment (eggs, bread, prosciutto, cookies, wine, juice, milk and water) for getting us through the next day as all grocery stores are closed on Sundays. We were also encouraged to pick whatever we wanted in the garden. Garden fresh tomatoes – yum!!
Marzia, Fiore (Marzia’s husband) and Alice were always around to help out with information and went above and beyond to make the stay comfortable and memorable. For instance, Fiore took time out of his day constructing a new building to tell Ken about Italian construction techniques (something Ken is interested in) as well as fix a car bumper when one of the other visitors mistakenly tore it off in the driveway. Marzia brought us cappuccinos at the pool one afternoon. These are truly generous, good hearted people and they made us feel part of the family.
The family made dinner for everyone staying at the estate and it was delicious! The best lasagna we’ve ever had! It was also a great time to meet everyone else staying at the La Manzinaie and trade travel stories. I would definitely take the cooking lessons once Marzia gets them up and running.
The room was clean, comfortable, roomy and full of homey touches. Our room also had a jet tub to relax in after a long day of site seeing. The only remotely negative we can say about our stay was that the room didn’t have a couch but this was easily fixed by reading on the bed. There are extra sitting chairs provided in the room but a couch let’s you lie down with your feet up. I know this a petty thing but remember, this is Italy and you’re on vacation!
Another reason we highly recommend La Manzinaie is because it is ideally located. It is easy to get to the freeway and there are many beautiful towns within an hours drive. It is also in the centre of wine country.
We highly recommend staying at La Manzinaie and we would go back there in a heartbeat. I understand that there are many return customers so I would advise booking this lovely place early.
