2bed/2bath apartment in Monticchiello, Tuscany South WhenApril 2006, approx. 1 month LocationIt is situated in the country, in a tiny hilltop village. The views were breath taking. Everything was very private. It overlooked an olive grove where we could see the sunset over a near by village through our bedroom window. Nearby AmenitiesThere is a great place right outside the town wall where one can sit and enjoy coffee. It's just a two minute walk. It is also right next to the public garden. A five or 10 minute walk down hill will take you to a tiny market where you can find items to tide you over until you get to the bigger grocery store in the next town (10-15 minute scenic drive). The House/ApartmentThe building was built in 1829 and amazing. We had two beautiful bathrooms and two bedrooms with plenty of room. Our apartment was on the second floor which there are two other apartments which you never hear. GardenOur apartment overlooked a tiny garden with original rock walls. It was a great place for sitting, having a picnic or letting the kids play. Furnishings/Cleanliness/Living AreasThe furniture were antiques. Everything was comfortable and spacious. Very clean and lots of extra linens. Bedrooms/BathroomsThe beds were very comfortable for sleeping. We had two bathrooms done in beautiful tile. Both were equipped with toilets, bidets, showers, and sinks. KitchenThe kitchen was big enough for us to cook nice full meals in. There was a gas stove, a dishwasher, a small refrigerator, space for storing food, and a window overlooking the garden and olive grove. Our favorite was the espresso machine in which we made cappuccinos everyday. Problems or BonusesThe owners were more than hospitable. There isn't a washer and dryer in that apartment but the owner offered us laundry service. She had someone pick up our dirty laundry and return them in few days, clean, dry, and neatly folded for less than if we were to go to the laundromat and figure out how to work the machines. We were there during Easter. The owner surprised our kids with little Easter gifts. They definitely made us feel welcomed! We were extremely happy about our stay and couldn't wait to tell everyone. Agency and Representatives (and price)We met the owners outside the town wall where we then followed them to the apartment. Their English was very good. The pictures and descriptions on the website were very accurate in explaining the details. The price was very reasonable. Do you recommend this vacation rental to others? We look forward to visiting again and will definitely stay there anytime! The apartment was exactly what we were looking for in a trip to Tuscany! Things to do in this areaWe took a trip to Siena, visited some hot springs (many near by), strolled through the parks, and ventured to the beach (a little ways away). We took daily walks throughout the town. Visited the church on Easter, had drinks with the owner of the restaurant outside the wall, played with the neighbors at the public garden. Relaxed and soaked up the peaceful surroundings of Monticchiello. This review is the opinion of a Slow Travel member and not of slowtrav.com. |
