Review by Forensicsgirl from Germany

2bed/2bath apartment near Colosseum, Rome

Colosseum View 2, photo by Lisa B

December 2006, 4 nights

As the name indicates, Colosseum View 2 is located near the Colosseum. Apartment was located over a busy street. For light sleepers, be sure to bring ear plugs.

Nearby Amenities

Internet points, ATMs, several restaurants and grocery stores are located within walking distance. Two smaller stores are located within a few feet of the apartment. A larger grocery store is less than 10 minutes away. We ate at the following nearby restaurants: Li Rioni, Le Naumachie and Taverna dei Quaranta. Absolutely loved Li Rioni's pizza and Le Naumachie's desserts. However, we were a little disappointed with Taverna dei Quaranta.

The House/Apartment

Apartment is as pictured in the website. Building was in good shape. However, there is a burned out light in the stairwell which made walking up the stairs a little difficult. Apartment was located over a busy street. For light sleepers, be sure to bring ear plugs.

Since smoking is not allowed in the apartment, my mother smoked her cigarettes in the courtyard. Courtyard is small and shared by the other residents.

Furnishings/Cleanliness/Living Areas

Furniture was in good shape. Apartment was exceptionally clean. There was plenty of seating in the apartment for everyone.

Beds were a little hard. Bedrooms were nicely furnished. One of the twin comforters was mildewed. I pointed this out to Natalia. She stated that the comforter had been washed several times and was stained. At that point, I didn't point out the dried, smeared make-up on the comforter. Larger travelers will find the showers to be a bit small. The water pressure and temperature did have a tendency to fluctuate in the mornings.

There were enough pots and pans for breakfast and a small lunch. Good quality. Kitchen was small but functional.

Problems or Bonuses

Natalia provides a cell phone for use while in Rome. This is a definite bonus! Also, our flight left in the late afternoon. Natalia made arrangements to store our luggage with the cafe owner next door.

Agency and Representatives (and price)

Upon contacting Dolce Roma through their website, I was contacted by Walter within a day or so. Both Walter and Natalia were fluent in English. Total price was 680 Euros for four nights. In the end, we received a 10% discount for staying for four nights during the low season. In order to confirm the reservation, we wired a deposit (25%) to their bank account. When paying the final 75%, be sure to bring a copy of the agreed price. There was a slight discrepancy as to how much was owed. The e-mail printout settled the disagreement.

Do you recommend this vacation rental to others?

I would stay here again. However, prior to settling into the apartment, I would look closely at the bed linens.
