Review 2633: Owner, Casa Sora Chiara

Review by LaniLee4 from PA

3bed/3.5bath house in Montone, Umbria

Dec. 16 -30, 2006, 2 weeks

It was in a place that really defies description. An ancient hill city that was magical, especially at Christmas. It's a location that includes the whole community. We all loved it totally. There were events going on constantly right in our small area, but we were close to many nearby cities.

We are trying to plan when to go back.

Nearby Amenities

We could walk about 1/3 block for both coffee and groceries, and at both places the owners were extremely kind as we struggled with our Italian. The tiny grocery store constantly astounded us as we got across that we wanted whole nutmeg. The owner would get on a little ladle and find some for us. They were able to find everything somewhere.

The House/Apartment

The whole area, including the building our house was in, is historic. We were in our own building, but close to others in the best possible way.

The renovations Margie did were totally amazing. Her home was well thought out and very comfortable. We came to love the shutters ... well, we came to love everything about it.

It's quite simply a beautiful place.

We sat outside most nights we were not traveling and watched the sun set. We hiked to lots of vantage points in the complex and enjoy other views. It was all fabulous.

Furnishings/Cleanliness/Living Areas

Everything was comfortable and in perfect shape. It was clean and there was more than enough of everything. We love cooking and I couldn't believe our luck. Everything was there. Our Christmas dinner was easy to cook and set a beautiful table because of how well supplied Margie has everything.

Plenty of great bathrooms. We put candles in with the tub. Each bedroom had its own charm, and we tried to spend time in all of them enjoying different views. We all slept well.

Well, I already raved about the kitchen, but it bears raving about twice. Margie is a woman after my own heart. We set the beautiful table every night we cooked in. More kitchen equipment that most people have!

Problems or Bonuses

Anna, who manages the property in Italy, was a wonderful surprise. My son & I both fell in love with her. She made us totally comfortable.

Also - Margie had spent 1/2 hour on the phone with me giving me detailed instructions (which I wrote down). We followed every word and arrived there safely and did everything she told us to. I thank her for taking the time to make sure that we would be happy as she was leaving for a vacation herself.

Agency and Representatives (and price)

As I said, Anna was a joy to us and spoke better English than we do. She explained everything to us.

Do you recommend this vacation rental to others?

My only reservation with this property is that I don't want it to get too popular because we want to go back ourselves.

Things to do in this area

We went everywhere. We even did a day trip to Florence. It is so convenient to so many, many interesting places. You could spend a month there and still not see everything close.
