Vacation rentals in Italy (villas, farms, estates, agriturismo, apartments)
Review 2653: Owner, Di Transo Studio (#81673)
2bed/1.5bath apartment in Naples, Campania
March 2007, one week
This is apartment is located in a building in the historic center of Naples, very closed to the Duomo. It is in an excellent location to explore Naples including museums, historic sites and within walking distance of the train station (albeit an energetic walk).
It is located near two busy streets but the noise pretty much was muffled with the shutters.
The area was exactly what we were hoping for to get the real feeling of the essence of Naples ... a busy, exciting city.
There are plenty of shops within 100 yards for groceries, meat, seafood, bakery, coffee and anything you would want to stock your larder.
Restaurants were within easy walking including two of Naples' most popular pizzerias.
The apartment building and the apartment were in excellent shape. It is located on the Italian first floor and was an easy walk up from the large enclosed private square in the front of the apartment building. There are two large bedrooms each with king size beds. The living room is quite large and has a single sofa bed.
One bedroom has the half bath en suite. The main bathroom has a stall shower and is quite large for Italy. The apartment has a large entry hall and kitchen.
The apartment was very clean.
No outside sitting area.
Furniture was in good shape and comfortable. Living room had seating for eight people. The dining area in the kitchen had a large table with four chairs.
Very comfortable king sized beds. Plenty of storage, particularly in the bedroom with the bath en suite. Lots of linens and towels were available. The bathrooms were up-to-date and suitable.
Excellent kitchen with refrigerator, stove with oven, dishwasher and plenty of dishes, utensils, etc. We did not do much food preparation except for breakfast and light meals.
Problems or Bonuses
Unfortunately I had to leave because of a medical emergency at home (it turned out well thank goodness) and the owner, Francesca, was absolutely marvelous in helping me make arrangements for a flight home and the last train to Rome so I would be able to leave in the morning.
She is a delightful person who works nearby and is quite accessible and helpful. She speaks English quite well and a real joy. I have rented several apartments in Italy and fortunately have had excellent owners with which to deal ... but Francesca was the best!
Agency and Representatives (and price)
The agency did very little to accommodate me and I dealt exclusively with Francesca by e-mail. She was quite prompt in responding and very easy to deal with. We had to adjust our rental week from November to March and she was quite cooperative in handling the change.
The rental was €790 with the deposit of €400 charged to a credit card. The balance was paid upon arrival in cash per her request.
The apartment very much echoed the description and photos on the web page.
Do you recommend this vacation rental to others?
I would absolutely recommend this apartment to anyone who wants to see Naples and wishes to be situated in the center of activity. I would definitely stay there again. The people in the other apartments and the nearby shops were friendly and helpful.
Things to do in this area
We walked all over Naples from this location visiting the duomo, Chapel San Servio, Via Spaccanapoli, museums, Via Toledo and its hectic activity, took trains to Sorrento and Ercolano, and hydrofoil to Capri. Just walking around the historic center and drinking in its hectic daily life was great.
Our favorite restaurant was three blocks away. Antica Trattoria Pisano and we also enjoyed the pizza at Da Matteo and Il Presidente.
