3bed/1.5bath house in Asti, Piemonte WhenSeptember 2006, 1 month LocationSan Martino Alfieri is a small village that is home to the Marchesi di Alfieri, a local family that produces an excellent wine and is the site of a beautiful estate with extensive grounds. It is an uphill walk to the Casa from the estate. The casa is private and located at end of a cul de sac. The house has a lovely view of vineyards and surrounding countryside from both bedrooms. Nearby AmenitiesCasa Nella Vigna is within walking distance of the Cafe Alfieri, the excellent Ristorante Concordia, a butcher and a supermarket. The House/ApartmentThe casa has been converted from a corn barn to a very laid back home. The downstairs has an open plan with living room, kitchen and dining area side by side. There is a bathroom downstairs. The second level has two bedrooms plus a full bath including a washing machine. The upstairs loft has two beds and is bright and sunny. GardenThe garden is very large and is on several levels. There is a nice patio as well as a lawn area and a less manicured area that slopes down to the home's vineyard. Furnishings/Cleanliness/Living AreasEverything is comfortable not fussy. This is an easy home to relax in. We comfortably slept seven people one night as well as had a table large enough to hold all of us. Bedrooms/BathroomsBeds are comfortable and four of us had no difficulty sharing a bath and a half. KitchenKitchen is very well outfitted. Several of us cooked together easily. Problems or BonusesToni and her daughter, Rebecca, are the bonus. Toni is an American married to an Italian. She does her darnedest to supply her guests with info on the area and various goings on. She is also full of stories about life in Italy. Agency and Representatives (and price)Toni does an excellent job of ensuring that everything is functioning properly. For the money, this is one great buy. Do you recommend this vacation rental to others?Recommend highly if you have a car. We stayed for a month in September 2006 and are returning for another month in September 2008. Things to do in this areaThe area and the house lend themselves to a blend of kicking back and taking it easy and exploring the many surrounding Piemonte towns. Wines in this region are excellent as is the food. People are also very welcoming. This review is the opinion of a Slow Travel member and not of slowtrav.com. |
