Review 2676: Owner, Behind The Tower
1bed/1bath apartment in Pisa, Tuscany West
April 2007, 1 week
Our apartment was a five minute walk from the Leaning Tower on the edge of the town which suited us perfectly.
The supermarket was a two minute walk round the corner. There were plenty of restaurants and shops nearby and the main shopping area was a fifteen minute walk away.
The apartment was situated on the first floor with no other apartments below. It was in excellent condition, nicely decorated, new bathroom, well equipped kitchen and large bedroom with plenty of storage space.
There was no garden, but a small balcony area, which was not really big enough to sit out on. Who needs to sit at home though when the Leaning Tower is only down the road!
Everything was very clean and comfortable, plenty of seating, loads of towels provided by the owners, and extra bed linen and pillows if needed.
Comfy beds, big bedroom with shuttered windows, one ample sized bathroom with lovely shower.
Used the kitchen a lot, everything we needed was there, including all crockery, cutlery, glasses, and various groceries such as tea, coffee, oil, condiments, etc.
Problems or Bonuses
Lovely welcome basket comprising bottle of wine, pasta and pasta sauce, chocolates in the bedroom. Also, a comprehensive list of things to do in the area provided by the owners. We were also picked up at the train station and dropped back there at the end of the holiday which was lovely.
Agency and Representatives (and price)
Gloria and Marcel, the owners, were very helpful throughout the booking stage by email (Gloria) and when we arrived in Pisa (Marcel). Both are English speaking and a joy to deal with. Everything was as described on the Internet. The price was about £330 for the week in April.
Do you recommend this vacation rental to others?
We would definitely stay here again. I have already recommended Behind The Tower to friends. The location is brilliant for the Tower, is near enough to the centre to be able to walk, public transport is great if needed (there is a local train line just behind the apartment which gets you to Lucca in half an hour, and Gloria and Marcel are both lovely.
Things to do in this area
We spent a lot of time sitting by the Tower and Baptistery, and also did quite a lot of walking around the city and along the river banks which were beautiful. Lucca is a lovely ancient town not far away, which we visited twice, and Viareggio is a seaside resort less than an hour away which was charming (a bit like Weston Super Mare in England).
The gelato shop on the main road from the apartment to the Tower was lovely. The lady was very friendly and made a real effort to speak some English to us when she knew we were trying to speak Italian. We found a lovely antiques market in one of the squares in the centre of town on Saturday (I think). Our favourite place for a quick snack was at the end of the road at the back of the Tower on the right hand side, just before turning the corner. Really friendly lady who loved the kids and again made a lot of effort to converse with us, as well as fabulous pizza!
