Review 2677: Rentvillas, Villa Valentino
5bed/4bath villa near Taormina, Sicily
March 24-31, 2007, 7 days
The villa was right on a main road immediately next door to a private residence (new and very beautiful). The view was spectacular, overlooking Isola Belle and the sea. A cable car (about a 10 minute walk) was available to take up to the city of Taormina - you could also take a taxi but driving was difficult. We loved the area.
The nearest grocery store and restaurants were a 10-minute walk but the walk was a bit difficult because the road was narrow and winding although we did make this walk during the day and at night several times. The supermarket was several miles away and one would need a car to shop there.
The building was in good shape albeit a bit different in decoration. It seemed to be a personal household - many books, artwork, antique furnishings were included. The entryway was right at the street level; the front door was up about 15 stairs. Once you entered the front door a bedroom, a bath, the kitchen, living room, dining room, terrace and TV area were all on one level. Upstairs contained four bedrooms, three baths and another terrace with a spectacular view. The house was very spacious and our party of 10 was quite comfortable. The noise from the street was not noticeable at night at all.
There was no pool but two very nice private terraces (the top terrace would be perfect for sun bathing) with beautiful views of Isola Belle and the sea.
The furniture was somewhat dated but comfortable and there was enough room for 10 people. It was adequately clean.
Our bed was comfortable; the bedrooms were spacious but the furniture was dated. The bathrooms were OK, could have been a bit cleaner.
The kitchen was very usable with enough pots, pans, dishes, glasses. We took only our breakfasts in the house and with 10 people scurrying around, it worked very well. Full meals could be cooked in the kitchen.
Problems or Bonuses
We were told there was a parking place at the villa with one or two on the other side of the street. All three cars ended up being across the street and only two gate openers were provided. We did manage to work everything out but this was a bit of a surprise.
Agency and Representatives (and price)
The agency was very helpful and always prompt in answering emails. The on site housekeeper did not speak English but somehow we were able to convey our thoughts and questions. The published information accurately reflected the villa. Our stay was during the last week of March, 2007. Price was $2122 for one week.
Do you recommend this vacation rental to others?
We would stay here again. The proximity to Taormina and the coast was great. We were happy with everything. The housekeeper was a wonderful cook and we should have had her cook more often for us.
Things to do in this area
We had three cars in our group and traveled about the eastern side of Sicily most days. We enjoyed spending time in Taormina along with Giardini-Naxos, Messina, Ganzirri, Siracusa, Caltagirone, Piazza Armerina and San Michele di Ganzaria (the hometown of my great grandfather!).
