2bed/1bath apartment in Collina Fleming, Rome

When

April 2007, 4 nights

Location

The apartment is located in a beautiful residential area of Rome called Collina Fleming. It is a neighborhood of apartments, shops and restaurants, very quiet and rather upscale. Close to Piazza Popolo, Villa Borghese, Stadio Olympico, good bus service to historic center.

Nearby Amenities

There are bars and grocery shops in the immediate area, and several supermarkets within a few blocks. There is also a daily market just down the street every morning.

The House/Apartment

The apartment is located in a modern two story building, the apartment is on the second floor. The only other apartment is a dentist office also on the second floor. The area is very safe, quiet and peaceful. One enters through a gate into a private garden area that has ample outside seating, with a sun canopy and lots of flowers. This area is for the apartment's use only and is quite private for a city setting. The apartment opens into a spacious dining area, and a nice living room, behind that is a (superb!) galley kitchen and bathroom (also awesome). The two bedrooms are behind and on either side of the kitchen and quite private from each other. There are balconies in both bedrooms and the living room.

Garden

There is a private garden area that has ample outside seating, with a sun canopy and lots of flowers. This area is for the apartment's use only and is quite private for a city setting. There is no pool. We really enjoyed sitting out here with wine and antipasto!

Furnishings/Cleanliness/Living Areas

Everything is brand new, very high quality and in superb taste. The apartment was spotlessly clean, with free maid service twice a week, more if you would like it. Lots of seating. A laptop is provided with high speed Internet. The huge LCD TV has TWO satellites, there were more stations available then we could imagine. There is also a DVD player. The living room has huge windows with a pretty view. Air conditioned. Beautiful lighting.

The apartment was recently featured in an Italian design magazine.

Bedrooms/Bathrooms

The bedrooms were great, very comfortable beds with nice duvets, good lighting, balcony, automatic shutters, drawers and closet space. One bedroom is medium sized, the other quite large. There is one bath, again with brand new fixtures, lots of hot water in the massage shower, and elegantly done. Plenty of towels were provided.

Kitchen

I loved this kitchen. I love to cook and could easily prepare nice dinners here and enjoy doing so - all new appliances including oven, microwave, dishwasher and espresso machine (as well as range, sink, refrigerator, etc.). Matching, high-quality plates, glassware, wine glasses, cutlery, placements, etc. GOOD quality pots and pans, enough to cook virtually anything. Every implement one might need. Some basics, like salt, oil, vinegar, sugar, paper towels and napkins were provided.

Problems or Bonuses

Many happy surprises - the owner, Giusseppe, was wonderful. The size and beauty of the apartment was a great surprise, it is even nicer than the photos. And the completeness and quality of the kitchen is unsurpassed in our experience. There were no negatives with this apartment.

Agency and Representatives (and price)

The owner, Giusseppe, picked us up at the car rental place and drove us to the apartment at no charge. He had a bottle of wine, a box of pastries and four bus tickets for us. There was water and juice in the fridge. He really went out of his way to make sure everything was perfect - showed us how to use the alarm system and the laptop, had a listing of nearby restaurants and transportation maps. We have rented a number of places and have never been treated so nicely by a landlord. He speaks great English. He was there on our departure morning at 6:30am to return our deposit and be sure the car service picked us up.

He answered emails immediately and was very pleasant and accommodating about a change of plans (we ended up staying with some additional people).

We paid 140 a night for the evenings that there were four people, 100 a night when it was just the two of us. These prices are apparently valid year round.

You can also view the apartment at Fleming Studio.

Do you recommend this vacation rental to others?

We would ABSOLUTELY stay here again - just for a longer time if possible - and would highly recommend it.

The only qualification I would have is that the neighborhood is not in the immediate historic center. We really loved being in a "real" residential part of Rome, and found the buses easy and convenient for getting around. A taxi from Termini was only 10, so that was a nice treat if it got late. However, if this is your first trip to Italy, or if you want to be right in the center, this might be a bit far for you.

Things to do in this area

Some very nice restaurants within walking distance, we really enjoyed Natalino e Maurizio and Acquolina Hostaria (pricey but wonderful). The gastronomia just down the street, next to the market, was great. There is also a very good fish market on the same street. The area is full of nice shops.
