Review 2693: Owner, Promenade a Rome

Review by katecoleman from MA who is a SlowTrav Contributor

1bed/1bath near Colosseum, Rome

April 2007, 3 days

The apartment is located in a beautiful building on via San Giovanni in Laterno. Great area - quiet, safe and close to everything. You can see the Colosseum at one end of the street and San Giovanni in Laterno at the other!

It was a fun and interesting neighborhood to walk around, with lots of tourist attractions, and many bars, clubs and restaurants. The public transportation options are great, bus and underground connections are close by.

Nearby Amenities

There are small grocery shops along the street, as well as bars. A supermarket within a few blocks.

The House/Apartment

The building is fairly old but perfectly maintained. After entering from the street, there is a nice courtyard area and a small lift to the apartment on the third floor. There were quite a few other apartments in the building, but it was very quiet and we were never aware of the other residents. There was very little, if any, street noise at night.

There isn't a garden.

Furnishings/Cleanliness/Living Areas

Everything was in very nice shape, a futon in the living room which could sleep two if necessary, a small table and chairs for eating, nicely lit. A very comfortable room for relaxing and reading, etc. Nicely appointed and decorated. There was a huge closet. TV and DVD.

The apartment was spotlessly clean.

The bedroom was very nice, painted prettily and the bed was firm and comfortable. Nice lighting. The bathroom was right off the bedroom and was very updated and attractive, everything worked perfectly (lots of hot water!) and was absolutely clean. Plenty of towels were provided.

The kitchen was small but very adequate for cooking. It was very well equipped with nice quality plates, glass wares, cookware, linens, etc. Obviously a lot of thought went into using the space very well, it had all the needed implements and equipment and was very comfortable to use. Again, everything was super clean and in good working order.

Problems or Bonuses

The lift was a nice surprise - we were happy not to have to carry the luggage upstairs.

The amount of thought and consideration that went into making this a comfortable place to stay was a pleasant surprise - from cleaning supplies to scotch tape to plug adaptors, to advice on sights and restaurants, to phone numbers for taxis that showed up! It seems like the owner actually thought about all the little things a person would need and supplied them.

It was a fun and interesting neighborhood to walk around, on one end of the street is the Colosseum, and many bars, clubs and restaurants. The other end of the street opens onto Piazza San Giovanni in Laterno, with lots to see. The public transportation options are great, bus and underground connections are close by.

Agency and Representatives (and price)

The owner was really wonderful, met us at the train station and brought us to the apartment and made sure everything was all set. Fast, friendly responses to our emails! She speaks fluent English (and a number of other languages!) We paid 140 per night in April, the rates are posted on the website, which gives a very accurate overview of the apartment.

Do you recommend this vacation rental to others?

We really liked this apartment and would love to stay here again - we would recommend it highly!

I would recommend it for two or three adults or perhaps a couple with two children.

Things to do in this area

The area is full of tourist attractions and history - we found a nearby pizzeria I Rioni, very good, and a restaurant a few blocks away, Buon Amici, was great for lunch, full of locals as opposed to tourists.
