1bed/1bath apartment near Santa Maria Maggiore, Rome

view of the bed above (behind bamboo screen) futon below , photo by me!

When

April 2007 , 7 nights

Location

The metro was even closer than we thought (i.e., two minutes walk). All well lit would be safe for women alone. The area was "ethnic" in that two convenience stores on the road were from Pakistan and a Chinese restaurant next door. It was very quiet no traffic/street noise. Good security, there were three different locked doors/gates to go through!

Nearby Amenities

We did not use nearby restaurants, but it was easy to get the metro into the Spanish Steps area or change at Termini and get the bus into the Piazza Navona area. There was a bakery just round the corner. Limited convenience store on the road.

The House/Apartment

The apartment was great. On the first floor, but there was a small lift. (it was the cheapest for four of us I could find!) Just as it looks on the website photos. Our two kids (12 & 15) slept up on the bed above and as I found it difficult to climb up to, hubby and me on the futon underneath, the mattress above looked good.

Garden

No garden.

Furnishings/Cleanliness/Living Areas

Apartment was clean. As shown on the website photos there is a high kitchen counter/breakfast bar that we could eat at. But there were only two high chairs. There was a desk and two "normal" kitchen chairs so we could not sit all four of us "around" anything. Was not a problem for us; we let the kids eat at the desk and we relaxed with wine at the breakfast bar! (To be fair the apartment is advertised for three people we paid extra for the extra child).

Bedrooms/Bathrooms

Bed above had a good mattress. Underneath was a futon which is OK if you are used to using them. It was a bit complicated to fold away so we left it out as a bed for the week. Only problem was the shower is drained in the middle of the bathroom so you need to wipe round with an old towel after a shower otherwise you slip going to the toilet!

Kitchen

Loads of pots, a good Teflon pan (for omelets etc.) A coffee espresso type to put on gas flame. No kettle (but Europeans don't use them). The washing machine worked well; there was a drying rack to put up in the room.

Problems or Bonuses

The subway was closer than I had thought. The apartment was so quiet.

Agency and Representatives (and price)

Agency had communicated well on emails in English. The on site representative was quick to arrive, friendly, spoke good English.

Do you recommend this vacation rental to others?

Yes I would recommend especially to a young couple. The bed above was hard to climb up to for us parents (53 & 72). It was not walking distance for Piazza Navona area but the price was right and the convenience of metro was great.

Things to do in this area

Walked to Colosseum (15 minutes).
