1bed/1bath apartment in Dorsoduro, Venice WhenMarch/April 2007, 4 weeks LocationThe location on the ground floor with two windows overlooking the Grand Canal is the top selling point for this apartment, endlessly fascinating. It is near Campo San Barnaba in Dorsoduro. Closest vaporetto stop is Ca' Rezzonico. Nearby AmenitiesEverything we needed or wanted was within 5 - 10 minutes' walk. This included the Punto supermarket, a gourmet grocery, Pane Rizzo for bread and groceries, and numerous restaurants. Our favorite coffee place from previous visits, Bar da Gino, was a short walk but there were several others even closer. The House/ApartmentExcept for the bedroom and bathroom which were in back, the other rooms were open to one another. These included a kitchen, eating area with nice rustic wooden table, and two seating areas with sofas, one of which was a sofa which could be used as another bed but would not have much privacy. The building appeared in good shape and even the facade on the Grand Canal looked sharp. I think there were six or so apartments and we occasionally saw others coming and going. Several were young families. Nearest to our unit was that of the "super." I loved having her around, greeting her on the streets, and the feeling that she had things in hand. We heard toddlers footsteps above us occasionally. One Friday night there was a loud party across the canal from us. There is the noise of boat traffic --it's Venice! GardenSurprisingly for Venice, there WAS a garden with benches and lovely trees. Children played there sometimes in the afternoons. Furnishings/Cleanliness/Living AreasFurniture was in good condition with plenty of seating. Both the sofas provided comfortable seating, the four wooden chairs for the dining table were also solid and comfortable. Besides this we had a wooden bench at the table and two miscellaneous chairs -- plenty for a party if we were so inclined. A small TV with only RAI 1. The apartment was clean when we arrived and the bathroom was cleaned weekly when linens were changed. However, no brooms or mops were provided for us to tidy things up ourselves. Bedrooms/BathroomsThe king size bed was perfectly comfortable. I must mention the abundance of closets: two in the bedroom and two more near the sofa bed. Bathroom was modern with good hot water. Tub and shower, no shower curtain or other divider so new showering skills were called for. KitchenKitchen was okay, not great. Under the counter refrigerator, microwave, dishwasher (which we did not use), and four-burner electric stove top. Plenty of pots and pans, dishes and silverware, although the utensils were flimsy. Many glasses, but only one (!) wine glass when we arrived. We did fine with cooking pasta, making salads, etc. And it could certainly work for full meals. Problems or BonusesThe location and view were even better than we expected. We decided we prefer this area to other Dorsoduro places nearer Salute because it is livelier. Agency and Representatives (and price)View On Venice continued to be very professional and responsive. Do you recommend this vacation rental to others?Yes! Things to do in this areaCampos San Barnaba and Santa Margherita are steps away, and everything in Venice is just a vaporetto ride away.
