3bed/2bath apartment in Taormina, Sicily WhenApril 29 through May 4, 2007, 1 week LocationThis apartment building was in Taormina, a five minute walk to the end of Corso Umberto. It was directly adjacent to Piazza Padre Pio, on Via Otto Geleng. Please note - this is NOT Hotel Villa Schuler. (That's his brother's hotel.) Nearby AmenitiesThere was a nice supermarket within five minutes walking. There were numerous restaurants and bars within 5-10 minutes walking. You need to go up and down steps to get to the market and restaurants (and Corso Umberto). The House/ApartmentThe building was modern, with expansive terraces and beautiful gardens. It was quiet, with views of the ocean, Giardini Naxos, and Mount Etna. GardenApartment C had a large terrace with a dining table and lounge chairs off of the living room, and a smaller terrace with a small table and two chairs off of one of the bedrooms. No pool. The terraces were private to this apartment. Furnishings/Cleanliness/Living AreasThe furniture was in very good shape and very comfortable. The dining room could seat eight comfortably. The eat in kitchen sat four. There were three couches in a U shape in the living room. There was a small sitting area in one of the bedrooms. Bedrooms/BathroomsThe three bedrooms were very nice. There was a large bedroom with a king size bed with a private bathroom, but no terrace, a smaller bedroom with two twin beds, and a large bedroom with a king size bed, a sitting area, and a terrace. The second bathroom was off of the hall. KitchenThe kitchen was very well equipped. We cooked there several times. There was also a washing machine in the kitchen, for laundry. Problems or BonusesWe were pleasantly surprised to be upgraded from the two bedroom apartment D to the three bedroom apartment C. This was extra nice since the terraces were larger and we gained a washing machine. Agency and Representatives (and price)Claudio, the owner, spoke excellent English and was extremely helpful. The pictures on the website were very accurate. We were given a small discount, in the end, because we were shy of a full week, even though we'd agreed to pay for the full week. This was a pleasant surprise given that we'd been upgraded to a bigger apartment. We'd originally arranged Apartment D, for seven days, at €137/day. We ended up in the larger Apartment C for €900. Do you recommend this vacation rental to others?Yes! I'd highly recommend this apartment. The owner was delightful. The apartment was wonderful. The location was great. Things to do in this areaWe enjoyed Taormina. We took the cable cars down to Mazzaro Beach one day and rented lounge chairs and had a nice beach day. We took a cab up to Castlemola and walked the path back down. We hiked up to convent/church above Taormina. The Greek theater is as stunning in real life as it is in pictures. Corso Umberto is a wonderful pedestrian street that varies widely by time of day... In the morning it is quiet and peaceful, in the evening it is bustling with activity.
