Review 2767: Summer in Italy, Villa Virginia

Review by Tom S from CA

7bed/7bath villa just outside Santa Maria Di Castellabate, Campania

May 12-19, 2007, 1 week

Villa Virginia is located on a hill above the beautiful small coastal town of Santa Maria di Castellabate which is about seven miles south of Agropoli. From this villa it is easy to reach the Amalfi Coast, Cilento Coast, Naples/Pompeii, Salerno and many nearby towns. By using the train and ferries travel is close and relaxing. Ferries are available out of Agropoli in the high season and out of Salerno at other times. Trains to Naples and Pompeii are available in Agropoli also.

The house is very private with an electric iron gate and set away from the city. The neighbors above can see onto the property but they are very respectful of your privacy. We loved the region and it seemed a lot more authentic than other areas of the coast and country.

Nearby Amenities

There is a very steep hill down to town, but it is a close walk to the grocery store and the city center. The beach is also within walking distance. The only drawback is you have to climb the hill road on your return so save some energy.

The House/Apartment

Villa Virginia is new and very modern in its design (environmentally speaking). It has heavy doors that swing open or tilt out, remote controlled air conditioners that shut off when a door close by is opened (energy conservation). The water is solar heated and is very hot.

The style both inside and outside capture the beauty and flavor of Italy. It is very impressive.

There are several great outside sitting areas that enjoy a perfect view of the ocean, the town and the valley. One is on the upper level of the house, one in the gazebo area, and the other around the pool. These relaxing areas couldn't be better. No picture can capture the essence of the property.

Furnishings/Cleanliness/Living Areas

All of the furniture appeared to be new. We were the first to stay at the villa and we were using everything for the first time. There is plenty of seating, dining and sleeping areas and furniture. This is also true of the outside areas.

Each bedroom is equipped with air conditioning, beautiful modern bathrooms with upgraded fixtures. The bathrooms are awesome. Some have tubs and showers and some have only showers. There is also a full bathroom outside near the pool and an outside shower for the pool.

The kitchen is thoroughly equipped and modern. It has everything you need including a microwave and dish washer. It is a beautifully well designed area of the house.

Problems or Bonuses

We got more than we expected. Our hosts were very responsive, available, and gracious. Annalisa takes care of cleaning the house, watering the plants, and keeping the pool clean. She does a great job on a daily basis.

Agency and Representatives (and price)

The booking agency was very efficient and helpful. I have no complaints about their service.

The onsite staff were more than adequate and met all our needs. We felt like royalty on our arrival and they were very thorough when showing us around the property.

Do you recommend this vacation rental to others?

I would recommend this property to anyone who wants to enjoy a relaxing stay in a beautiful area of Italy. The property is beyond description and has everything you need.

Things to do in this area

We visited town several times and my sons and their friend went swimming at the beach. We traveled by train out of Agropoli to Naples, Pompeii and Salerno. We took the ferry out of Salerno to the Amalfi Coast and visited Positano and Amalfi.

My friend and I took a drive south down the Cilento Coast and saw some magnificent sights and small towns. This is an amazing region. We took advantage of a day when our wives went shopping in Positano.
