1bed/1.5bath apartment in Lucca, Tuscany North WhenMay 2007, one week ReviewWe just spent a week at this lovely apartment in Lucca and highly recommend Destination Lucca (Andrew H). The apartment was recently remodeled with tile floors and a great terrace. It is spacious and nicely furnished, with a comfortable bed, small study, and good kitchen appliances. The couch in the living room is also a sofabed, so it would be comfortable for a small family. We even used the washing machine -- a first and it was simple to use. The apartment is centrally located, but relatively quiet (since most of the surrounding streets are pedestrian only). At any rate, Lucca is a charming small city and it's easy to walk to any destination with the city walls. Andrew met us at the train station and made us feel very welcome. He also made himself available during our stay if we had any questions. You can check the website for current rental rates. We noticed on the Destination Lucca website a link to a cooking school -- and we really recommend it! Two women from the school came to the apartment and we made a full dinner (we selected the menu from several options on their website) at the apartment. They are great cooks and lots of fun. We had delicious leftovers for days. It was well worth the expense. We also connected with Heather J (info@sapori-e-saperi.com), who lives in the Lucca area and offers food related outings in the Garfagnana. She took us out for a half-day tour, which lasted from 2:00 until 10pm and we had a fabulous time visiting several old cities in the Garfagnana, and enjoying snacks at a small deli/shop in Castelnuovo and having dinner at a restaurant on a hill top that is in the middle of the woods at the end of a gravel road. It's the kind of place that we would never have found on our own! If you are interested in the area and food, we recommend her as a tour guide.
