Review 2805: TuscanHouse, La Casella
2bed/2bath house near Cetona, Tuscany South
May 2007, 1 week
This beautiful, recently restored two-bedroom house is situated on a dirt road approximately two km outside of Cetona. Although there are other houses on the road, this property is very secluded. The views from the house and property are up to Monte Cetona and down across the valley and towards Cetona itself.
We did walk on the dirt roads from the property for several miles, passing mainly vineyards and olive groves and other even larger properties. We could have walked to the town, but never did. I think it would have taken about 30 to 40 minutes. Parking was relatively easy in Cetona and we preferred to do that. There were several small shops including a small Coop in Cetona and a larger supermarket about 10 minutes away by car.
The house itself was recently restored, and there is a photo album in the Villa documenting the work. There is an external stair case linking the lower and upper floors, which are essentially two separate apartments, each containing a kitchen, sitting area ,large bedroom, and attached bathroom. Each floor has its own CD player and television.
The garden is beautifully maintained and planted with an extensive array of flowers and vegetables. There was a full-time gardener who unobtrusively made sure everything was pristine. There were two outdoor dining areas with a table and four chairs at each. There was also a smaller table with two chairs at a separate barbecue area. There was also a new and well maintained outdoor pool with four recliners. The entire garden and pool area were quite private.
It appears as though the house has been recently furnished with both modern and antique furniture. We mainly sat in the covered porch, where there was a table, and comfortable seating for four.
The house was quite clean and tidied when we arrived.
The bedrooms each contained a double bed and were very comfortable. The bathrooms were new and spacious. I was a little worried about the durability of the down stairs tub if the shower attachment was used a lot.
The kitchen was small but quite sufficient for our needs. There were plenty of pots and pans. We only used the downstairs kitchen and usually just for snacks although we did cook one meal without difficulty.
Problems or Bonuses
We were very pleasantly surprised by the size and quality of the Villa, and perhaps even more so by the beautiful grounds.
Also, the owners very generously left beer and wine for us, along with some water and milk on our arrival.
Agency and Representatives (and price)
Zak was as good as all the other reviewers said he was. The on site people only spoke Italian but the owners answered the cell phone and spoke excellent English.
Do you recommend this vacation rental to others?
We would love to stay here again.
Things to do in this area
Zak's restaurant list was used for the restaurants in the area and we didn't find a bad one, although we were disappointed by the one in Cetona a little bit.
