Review 2843: Roman Reference, Piazza Tuscolo (#137)

Review by Louplou from UK

3bed/2bath apartment in San Giovanni, Rome

April 06, 3 Nights

Located in the San Giovanni area with only a 5-10 minute walk to your nearest metro stop, this apartment was a gem in a busy area. The apartment is one of several surrounding a stunning resident only courtyard.

Nearby Amenities

This apartment is within walking distance of several bars, cafes and restaurants, however I did not notice any grocery shops nearby; then again I ate out in restaurants closed to the attraction I was visiting that day in the evening, and therefore did not require groceries. There is one particular cafe/bar which is open late night and is only a three-minute walk from the apartment. They sell coffee, alcoholic beverages and fresh pastries even at 2am! A great spot to visit on the way home from a busy day, this cafe/bar was always busy, but is far enough away from the apartment so not to disturb your sleep. (And the pastries are GREAT!)

The House/Apartment

The apartment includes lift access, although it is only one floor up.

Decorated in traditional Italian decor, with fresh yellow washed walls, tiled floors and dark wood traditional Italian furniture. Complimented by select art works including a Da Vinci reprint above the bed in the master bedroom, this apartment was a beautiful, homely and elegant holiday base. With three bedrooms, each room sleeping two people (two sets of single beds and one double) and two bathrooms and a large living room with a secluded kitchen area in the corner. The apartment includes a large shower room and bath. The apartment also has a working washing machine and plenty of cups, plates, cutlery and a European coffee pot in the kitchen. Ironing board, iron and laundry rack were also available.

You can view the apartment directly: Piazza Tuscolo.

The apartment is set around a large and glamorous courtyard, which even has its own fountain. There are plenty of benches to sit and relax, with beautiful palm trees and bushes to shelter you from the sun. This courtyard is shared by all the apartments, but is gated for resident use only.

Furnishings/Cleanliness/Living Areas

This apartment was very clean, tidy and an exceptionally pleasant place to relax between sightseeing trips.

The master bedroom is very very big with elegant furniture and plenty of plug sockets for your hairdryer. The master bedroom contains one king-size bed a couple of comfortable chairs, bedside cabinets and a chaise lounge decorating the end of the bed. The other bedrooms were all ample size and contained either single beds, bunk beds or a a fourth room with a sofa bed.

The kitchen was full of pans, cups, dishes, cutlery and a six cut European style coffee pot for fresh brewed coffee each day. The kitchen was clean and tidy and easy to navigate.

Problems or Bonuses

The apartment was advertised as only sleeping six people, when in fact it slept eight. This was a great bonus as there were four of us travelling together and the extra space meant that two people did not have to share a bedroom. Also the living room contained a good signal television set and some English books to read.

Agency and Representatives (and price)

The agency were very helpful and spoke excellent English. We were let into the apartment by a nice young gentleman who explained all the amenities to us before leaving and gave us extra sets of keys for ease. We paid 600 for three nights and it was well worth it. Between four of us this was a bargain and the apartment was very large and spacious so we each had plenty of space to relax and enjoy our holiday.

Do you recommend this vacation rental to others?

I would recommend this apartment to families and groups of travellers because of the large space and multiple bedrooms. It is also very quiet there and is within easy reach of other apartments near by.

Things to do in this area

Pay a visit to the late night cafe, just a few minutes walk to the street to the left of the apartment gate (if you are looking out towards the piazza - to the right if you are facing the gate). You will know it by all the people stood outside as it always busy. The pastries are excellent and the staff are friendly.
