Review 2875: Owner, Piazza S.Egidio Apartment
1bed/1bath apartment in Trastevere, Rome
May 2007, 5 nights
This apartment, in lively Trastevere, was very well located. We had the feeling that we were indeed in a real neighborhood, and that local people were as much a presence as tourists. It is on a wonderful small piazza - S.Egidio - around the corner from Santa Maria de Trastevere. We especially like the fact that there were trees in the piazza, and that our window looked right out into their leafy branches, pleasantly filtering the view below. The Trastevere location is very convenient for seeing the Centro Storico on foot, or by bus.
Right below the apartment is a very good cafe - the Ombre Rosse. There were lots of businesses, restaurants and cafes, all very busy. We easily found a small grocery store to meet our needs.
The building was once a convent. The owner provides a sketch of what it looked like centuries ago. It hasn't changed much! There are a couple of steep stairways up to this apartment.
We did not hear any other apartments, nor see other residents. It was a quiet building. Outside the window though, the street life was noisy and boisterous. This is a plus or a minus, depending on how much you enjoy that! Fortunately, closing the windows blocked much of this. The nearby Santa Maria bells however kept us way too well informed about the time all night! If we had chosen to use the air conditioning (no need, it was cool during our stay) this would have made it quieter still.
The apartment was roomy, attractive and spotlessly clean. It felt so luxurious to have all of that space in a dense urban setting like Rome. We really appreciated this oasis. The apartment is just as nice as it looks on the website. It felt like a home. I enjoyed the full wall of books in the bedroom, gathered by an obviously enthusiastic reader. There were window fans in every room.
There were plenty of choices for seating, but we gravitated to the kitchen counter, where we were grateful for the opportunity to use the laptop provided.
The TV had multiple channels, so international auto racing could be watched by my husband, a fan.
The bed was very comfortable. The bedroom was quite large with copious storage space for our things. The bathroom was very small, but cheery and well designed to make the most of the space.
The kitchen was just great! We didn't really cook there, but we kept fruit, water, wine, and cheese around. Had we chosen to cook, it would have been a fine kitchen with nice appliances, plates and tools for the job. It lacked nothing!
Agency and Representatives (and price)
We dealt directly with the owner through her website. She was more than helpful to us, not only when we made booking arrangements, but in checking with us frequently. She made us feel like guests, not clients. She normally rents by the week, but she was able to meet our needs for five nights. She provides a wonderful booklet of information about the area. You will feel very welcomed.
She lives nearby and provides support.
Do you recommend this vacation rental to others?
We would not hesitate to recommend this apartment to others. It was so comfortable, so homey and so roomy. It was the perfect place to crash after the charming chaos of Rome all day.
