Vacation rentals in Italy (villas, farms, estates, agriturismo, apartments)
Review 2944: Agriturismo Il Passo degli Ulivi, Apartment
apartments on a farm near Paganico, Grosseto, Tuscany West
June 30-July7 2007, 1 week
This apartment was one of three in a house on a farm in the country. Rental property sheltered by vegetation from the main farm buildings. Large, well-maintained pool for the three apartments. Beautiful views of the hills of Tuscany. But only a 10 minute drive to a major road linking Florence, Siena and Grosseto
Definitely need a car for this location; nearest town is Paganico, about a 10 minute drive with two grocery stores and several restaurants.
The building seemed new (or renovated) but built in the old style; tile floors, windows that opened wide to let in the Tuscan breezes and views, very modern bath. There are two other adjoining apartments in the house, so you hear some noise from children playing outside from other units through open windows. But generally secluded and quiet.
Each apartment has its own outside table. We were in the Badia, which has a more private patio at the end of a wing of the house. Had breakfast and dinner out there, watching the sunset over the medieval town opposite.
Furniture was in excellent condition. The living/kitchen area has a table with four chairs and a couch that seats three comfortably. There is also a tile-topped outside table on the patio where we generally ate.
The bed in the bedroom was very comfortable and a large size for Europe. There was also a very comfortable and easy to assemble pullout couch in the living room.
The bath fixtures were very modern; strong shower, no bathtub. Better facilities than many of the hotels we stayed in subsequently.
Fully equipped kitchen (convection/toaster oven rather than full oven). Wine glasses! Lots of good pots and pans and full set of dishes. Gas stove. We had no trouble cooking full meals but did not use the oven since it was so hot.
Great to be able to have breakfast without going out or to cook a meal at the end of the day.
Problems or Bonuses
Apartment was exactly as advertised through pictures on the web site. If anything, it was better than we anticipated.
Agency and Representatives (and price)
The booking agency was very efficient. The on-site person who met us was very friendly. He did not speak any English but showed us the entire apartment and where good places to go were on a map (provided).
Very good value for money for the week at the beginning of July that we stayed there (€580 for two people)
Do you recommend this vacation rental to others?
We would absolutely recommend this accommodation to anyone wanting to explore southern Tuscany. The feeling of being out in the country, while only minutes from a major road, was very advantageous. Some other agritourism places we saw were far off the beaten path.
Things to do in this area
We did several day trips in the area. We visited Grosseto (about 1/2 hour away -nearest major city), Siena (about an hour drive - beautiful), the hot springs in Saturnia and did a mountain drive to several medieval towns including Pienza. Florence is about a two hour drive - we saved it for after our stay.
Our best meal was at the Monte Oliveto Maggiore Abbey.
