apartments on an estate near Montepulciano, Tuscany South WhenJuly 18, 2007, Five nights LocationDuring the three weeks we spent in Italy we enjoyed visiting numerous towns and cities. The most enjoyable part of our visit was the five nights we spent at the beautiful and picturesque Podere Le Manzinaie. What a lovely setting this is: a real working farm with wonderfully comfortable accommodations. All nestled in the rolling hills and golden fields of Tuscany in the summer. Days were warm but nights were cool and comfortable. And there was always the large swimming pool for a refreshing dip. Our hosts, Fiori, Marzia, and Alice were very friendly and eager to make our stay memorable. We greatly enjoyed the delicious fruit and vegetables from Fiori's garden. While driving around Tuscany we visited numerous medieval villages. Anyone who loves art and history will not be disappointed. Nearby AmenitiesThe town of Montepulciano is only about a 10 minute drive away. Here one can buy groceries or choose among several excellent restaurants. The House/ApartmentThe building we stayed in was built in 1878 and has been beautifully restored. The apartment we stayed in was quite roomy with a private bath, a bedroom with a canopied four poster bed, a living room and a fully equipped kitchen. I think there were about six other apartments in our building. The thick walls preclude any sound from other apartments. The environment was quite and peaceful, day or night. GardenThe grounds of Le Manzinaie are beautiful with large lawns, flowers, trees and gardens. The pool was large and well maintained. Furnishings/Cleanliness/Living AreasThe accommodations were beautiful with lots of room to eat, lounge, or visit. All was immaculate. Bedrooms/BathroomsThe bed was very comfortable with a beautiful vaulted ceiling. The bathroom was large and functional with a whirlpool in the tub. KitchenThe kitchen had lots of counter space with all the pots, pans and dishes necessary to cook full meals. And we did. Above the sink was a shuttered window that opened onto a picturesque part of the grounds. Problems or BonusesThe pleasant surprise was our hosts who were exceedingly gracious and accommodating. Agency and Representatives (and price)We booked directly with Le Manzinaie. We felt the prices were quite reasonable. Do you recommend this vacation rental to others? We enthusiastically recommend the Podere Le Manzinaie to anyone who wants to spend time in Tuscany. If we ever go back to Italy we will definitely try to book a reservation at Podere Le Manzinaie. Things to do in this areaDrive around Tuscany and visit the many medieval towns. We especially found our trip to Assisi inspirational. There are many different kinds of shops. The more interesting ones are off the beaten path of tourists. The staff at Le Manzinaie can offer advice on all of the above. We enjoyed some really great meals at local restaurants. But the best meals that we enjoyed were prepared in our own kitchen with fruits and vegetables from Fiori's garden. This review is the opinion of a Slow Travel member and not of slowtrav.com. |
