5bed/4bath house near Marcialla, Tuscany Chianti WhenJuly 28 - August 4, 2007, 1 week LocationThis was a villa in the country. The location was excellent - had great views of vineyards and olive groves. We loved the area and enjoyed walking, running and biking in the countryside. The property was fantastic. Nearby AmenitiesYou could walk into Marcialla to a small grocery store, however for groceries - we opted for a Co-Op in Tavarnelle which was driving distance away. There was a restaurant in Marcialla that was recommended - we didn't go there. We found a wonderful restaurant in Tavarnelle, which actually catered to two of our family who have Celiac disease - they had a separate gluten-free menu - which was excellent! The House/ApartmentThe villa was historical. The main portion was an 11th century tower that had been remodeled, but you could still see the original walls. This was a single rental villa on the estate - the caretaker lived next door, which was very handy. GardenThe gardens were lovely and tended to daily by the gardener. We had our own pool. There were great lounge chairs which offered a great view of the surrounding countryside. We sat outside many nights just enjoying the view. Also had a great veranda where we ate several evening meals. Furnishings/Cleanliness/Living AreasFurniture was in good shape, comfortable and there was plenty of space for our entire party (seven people). There was a living room and a separate sitting room - so people could spread out. The decor really stayed true to the original dwelling, including period antiques and paintings. Bedrooms/BathroomsBeds were comfortable and the rooms were nice. There was one bathroom en suite for the three main bedrooms and then a shared bathroom for two other bedrooms. In addition - there was a very nice bathroom outside on the patio. One bedroom had a high-ceiling, which was great. Another was on the top floor and had a fantastic view of the valley. Each of us had a hard time deciding which one we liked the best! KitchenKitchen was definitely usable - we cooked several full meals in it. In addition, we had a local chef come in for a cooking lesson and there was enough room in the kitchen for him, and the four of us who were students! Afterward, his son served the meal (seven courses) to our entire party out on the veranda - it was one of our most memorable experiences! Problems or BonusesThe only surprise was that the listing included Internet service, and it was only dial-up. But - there was only one of us who really wanted to check his email - the rest of us couldn't have cared less! Agency and Representatives (and price)Rentvillas was wonderful to deal with. All spoke English and the villa accurately reflected what they published on their website. Do you recommend this vacation rental to others?I would highly recommend this villa to anyone, including my best friend (who happened to be with us) and any others who would contact me. Especially if you want to be out in the countryside to relax. If you want to be close to the action - then this isn't the place for you. But - if you want to enjoy the sun setting over the Tuscan hills and countryside - this is the place! Things to do in this area
