Review 2997: Rome City Apartments, Royale

Review by John S from NJ

2bed/1.5bath apartment near Pantheon, Rome

July 18-23, 2007, 5 nights

We were picked up at the airport by Rome City Apartments and taken to "Royale." The apartment was located two blocks from the Pantheon in an amazing area of Rome. After paying for our rental, and provided a few restaurant hints, we were on our own. The apartment was nicely decorated, and the location was fabulous - each morning I woke early and walked into Pantheon square for espresso.

More about the apartment. Accommodations were nice - two bedrooms and one main bathroom (small toilet off the kitchen doesn't count). Bathroom was a bit dirty when we arrived, but the agency sent someone right out to clean it better. Kitchen was on the newer side, although we only used the refrigerator. Washing machine was newer, but a bit confusing to use (we figured it out). Living room was plenty big enough, and there was a very nice terrace (wine at 5:30pm listening to church bells!). A/C was sufficient (single unit in living room), but the circuit breaker clicked off a few afternoons (make sure you find out where the circuit breaker is).

All in all, a very pleasant stay with Rome City Apartments.

Nearby Amenities

Restaurants and grocery stores abound! Be careful of the restaurants on Pantheon square (good food, great service, VERY expensive). Grocery store just off of the square (left at McDonalds, up the street) - good place to buy cheese, wine, water, etc.

The House/Apartment

Most other apartments had regular occupants. Building appeared 17th century, but was clean and cool. Elevator very interesting (SMALL - two people maximum), but didn't prove to be a problem.

Terrace was rather bare, but we brought chairs out to enjoy the "rooftops of Rome."

Furnishings/Cleanliness/Living Areas

Furniture was in good shape and apartment was pretty clean (see note above about bathroom).

Beds were fine, and bedrooms were simple but functional.

Kitchen was fine.

Problems or Bonuses

Location was great, right in the heart of renaissance Rome!

Agency and Representatives (and price)

Agency was responsive and helpful. Met us at the airport on time, and were waiting at the apartment when we arrived.

Do you recommend this vacation rental to others?

Yes, I'd stay here again. At the prices of Roman hotels, this was a bargain. Understand that you're not staying at a five star hotel, but in an apartment, adjust your attitude (and expectations), and Royale was great for my family of five.

Things to do in this area

Not enough room to write about all there is to do!
