Vacation rentals in Italy (villas, farms, estates, agriturismo, apartments)
Review 3028: Owner, Villetta Mimma Vittoria
2bed/2bath house in Gioa Tauro, Calabria
14 August 2007, One week
The Villa was home as soon as you walked through the door. Interior design to perfection, like from some home and house magazine, very modern with a warm cozy feel also ... nice soft lighting, candles, everything thing in the villa that you could possibly wish for, an old building with exquisite taste for modern decor. It's home from home, which with the surroundings of beautiful Calabria, the sights, sun, the friendly local people, a home you do not wish to leave.
The location of the villa is in a town, which is central to visit lots of destinations whether north or south, car hire is essential, to view the many beautiful coastlines. You will not be disappointed!
You could walk for coffee, groceries and restaurants, however a car is a must as the village where the villa is situated is very nice, but after a few days one could get restless. However, all amenities are within walking distance.
Historical, fantastic shape, modernly decorated to high standards, very peaceful and tranquil.
No pool but a small seating area outside, did not deter us though. As the villa, once experienced is fantastic in itself.
The furniture was out of this world, decor, artistic interior design.
Bedrooms extremely comfortable, air conditioning, beautiful bedding, furniture etc.
Main bathroom is awesome, glass modern sinks, old style bath, fantastic.
Kitchen was absolutely wonderful. Very modern, and every single utensil that you could possibly wish for.
Cooking was a pleasure..
Condiments, oils, spices, everything.
Problems or Bonuses
Nice surprises were: we had a basket of food, wine and a nice welcome poster with our names printed saying welcome to Calabria.
Also on the fridge were out names spelt out with fridge magnets.
Very nice welcoming touches.
Agency and Representatives (and price)
The representative was very polite and friendly and spoke very good English. Also very informative.
Do you recommend this vacation rental to others?
Things to do in this area
The beach was very nice, and the restaurants on the beach were good.
Nice clothes shops also.
This was primarily a beach holiday but we wanted to explore southern Italy as I am familiar with the north as my mother is from this region. We hired a car and travelled as much as we could do in a week, not enough time I can assure you! We visited Tropea which was beautiful, the journey there was amazing, the mountain views, the tiny villages we travelled through etc. The journey took around 2 1/2 hours... on hilly narrow windy B roads. Pizzo was one of our favourites, very historical and had a lot of character, via motorway it took around two hours. Reggio di Calabria good for clothes shopping but quite touristic and very busy. That took around 1hr 20mins via motorway. Bagnara was very nice, one of the best beaches apart from Tropea, very busy little place with the locals so parking was very difficult.. this was 45 minutes away from the villetta. Parmi was only 15 minutes away but did not stay as there was a carnival and there was no parking and too hectic for us ... the beach looked very nice though.
