1bed/1bath apartment in Cefalu, Sicily

Panoramic view from our terrace in Cefalu, photo by myself

June 23 - July 7, 2007, 2 weeks

This apartment is located in Cefalu, in the old town. It was facing a small church and Bastione.

Nearby Amenities

The location was prime because the apartment was very close to numerous restaurants, Duomo, groceries, cafes, alimentari and tavola calda (20m-200m). It was also close to beaches. One sandy beach was just a walk down the street for about 200m. The big Cefalu beach is about 500m walk through the old streets of Cefalu.

It is hard to drive in the narrow streets of Cefalu and the old part is a restricted zone, so it is impossible to park there. There is a big parking area by the beach if one needs to have a car. It was very easy to walk everywhere in Cefalu as distances are small. The big supermarket is located in the modern Cefalu and takes maybe 15-20 minutes walk to get there.

The House/Apartment

The apartment is located on the third floor and the roof, no elevator. The building was old but recently renovated and clean. It was peaceful and the building had two other apartments on lower floors. The stairs were very steep and almost in one straight line up to the top, so it is not recommended for people with walking problems. The stairs' corridor was also narrow.

The apartment was located on two levels with internal stairs between the living room and the kitchen. The living room and the bedroom were located on the lower level and there were a balcony with sea view from the living room. The TV was located in the living room. The sofa bed in the living room was comfortable. The bathroom with a shower and the kitchen were located at roof level. A good size terrace panoramic was accessible from the kitchen, with a view on Cefalu and the sea.

The apartment had air-conditioning, a must in Sicily, it was very hot starting 8AM in June.

The apartment was good for a family. The two rooms and the kitchen ran together, so the air conditioning was one system for all the apartment.

You can view the property directly: La Piazetta C.

Furnishings/Cleanliness/Living Areas

The apartment was clean. The sofa bed in the living room was comfortable. The furniture was simple and consisted of two commodes, one big glass top table and chairs and a big sofa bed.

The bedroom was small with a bed and a wall closet, two small tables. It had a mirror. The window in the bedroom was small. The terrace had a table, a big umbrella, chairs and sunbeds. The bathroom was small, but enough for three of us.

The kitchen had a big refrigerator a gas stove and an electrical oven. It had everything we needed for our stay. It also had a table with chairs.

Problems or Bonuses

The big surprise was the terrace. The views were much nicer than advertised.

Agency and Representatives (and price)

The service from the agency was good. Massimo, the owner, always answered promptly my emails with questions. As we were renting for two weeks, he offered a discount and also we got the air conditioning for free.

When we arrived to Cefalu an on site person was waiting for us. She spoke English. Giovanni, one of the young boys working there was very nice and helped us with luggage. He guided us through the apartment and explained where to leave garbage. He also always greeted us when we met on the streets of Cefalu.

The transactions were very smooth. We were also provided with maps and a brief description of nearby attractions. There were always somebody available at the agency if we had questions.

Do you recommend this vacation rental to others?

I do recommend this apartment for families (for us two adults plus one child it was perfect) or for a couple. People with mobility problems would find it difficult climbing the stairs or going down. It looks like in the old town this is something normal. So just be careful and go slowly.

Things to do in this area

Cefalu has a Duomo to visit. La Rocca to climb for the views. It is also connected in season with the Aeolian islands with a daily hydrofoil. It was easy to get to Palermo by train. There are also villages to visit in that area which is Madonie Park Reserve and are accessible by buses.

Our favorite restaurant was: Al Porticciolo with a terrace on the rocks just over the waves, spectacular.

Our favorite Tavola Calda was: Da Ciccio for pizzas and roasted chicken to take. Not only for the food, but also for a good chat with the owner.
