Review 3073: Domus International, Via Pozzo delle Cornacchie, 55
2bed/2bath apartment near the Pantheon, Rome
August 07, 10 days
We came across this unit on the Slow Travel website. We were drawn to the large, bright looking rooms, the location, the lift and the roof top patio. Little did we know that the service would also be of such a high quality!
We dealt exclusively with Stefano. He arranged the unit for us. He arranged to meet us at the unit on arrival and upon our request he arranged our transfer to the airport for our departure. He also managed to order a taxi for us, arrange extra cleaning at a very reasonable rate and posted forgotten items back to Australia. Service over and above I think!
When we arrived Stefano greeted us and showed us through the unit. We were very excited by the huge, open, bright, cool rooms that were awaiting us. There are two bedrooms, one double and one twin. The double room has an en-suite with a rainfall shower and a spa. The see through doors into the shower add to the spacious appearance of the room. The twin room is right next door to another full size bathroom with a shower, bath, basin and toilet. And that’s not all, there is yet another toilet and half shower in the unit just in case two isn’t enough! Along with the two bedrooms is a small, yet full sized and fully equipped kitchen with breakfast bar, a lounge, sitting room and separate dining room. All of the rooms are linked together by a long hallway, again adding to the spacious feel.
The entire unit is tiled, which was perfect for the heat of summer; we were in the apartment for the first 10 days of August. We ran the air conditioners at night, which are located in both bedrooms, and found that we did not need them on during the day. Amazingly, the unit was cool and comfortable from being locked up for the day. It helped that the windows all have security shutters so we were able to leave the windows open to allow a little breeze to pass through at all times.
There are three televisions, two of which have satellite TV. This was fantastic because we found the option that allowed us to watch the English television shows in English. The lounge also has a CD, tape and radio player. There are CDs provided but we made use of the auxiliary port and cord provided to hook up our iPod and listen to our own music on the stereo. It certainly helped on those nights when we held dancing competitions in the huge living area of the unit!
The views from the unit are amazing. At least twice a day I was amazed by the fact that I could see St Peters from my shower window. From the other windows an abundance of church steeples can be seen. More famous landmarks can be seen from either the room windows or from the rooftop, such as the Pantheon, St Peters, The Coliseum, the Forum and the Victor Emmanuel Monument (also nicknamed ‘The Typewriter’ and ‘The Wedding Cake’).
The location was another huge draw card for us. We were only a few minutes walk away from the Pantheon which comes with a wealth of cafes, restaurants, gelato shops and a taxi rank (i.e., stand). There is a supermarket around the corner and an information booth giving advice and maps and selling tours is just up the road. TIM (Italy’s phone and Internet provider) has a shop up the road which makes connecting to the Internet a breeze (just remember your mobile phone and USB cable to connect it to your computer to use it as your modem) or for buying cheap international phone cards that can be used from the unit’s phone.
We highly recommend both Domus International and the unit at Via Pozzo Connachi 55. It truly made a huge difference to our overall experience. We felt like we were a part of Roma and we valued the comfort that came with having such a large, comfortable space to come home to each day.
