apartments on an estate near Montefiridolfi, Tuscany Chianti WhenJuly 13-20, 2002, 1 week LocationOn the Antinori estate near Mercatale in the western part of Chianti. Set amongst Tignanello vineyards. A few dirt roads to get around. 20 minutes to Panzano/Greve, 10 minutes to Autostrada. Beautiful setting. A bit remote -- you need car to get to villages and towns. Loved it and would go back because apartments well furnished, setting great and staff very helpful. Nearby AmenitiesCan't walk anywhere The House/ApartmentAll newly redone with nicely done interiors and baths and beautiful outside space. Pool complex great too. Very clean and picturesque. Comes complete with 3 bottles of Antinori wine and olive oil, pasta and suace for one meal, and daily replishment of cereal and shelf milk and OJ. The Tignanello building has 4-5 apartments; more are being built on the property. We stayed in a two bedroom apartment. GardenBeautiful shared space with private balcony in Sangiovese unit where we stayed. Pool is common and large and with kids it is welcome. Other people around. Furnishings/Cleanliness/Living AreasAll new with great linens, enough space . Immaculate and cleaners take garbage everyday and replace linens and towels mid week. No screens. Bedrooms/BathroomsBest beds we had in Italy in last 5 years. Beautifully decorated. Bathrooms new and modern. KitchenWell equipped and new equipment. Worked well for us. We had several meals at home. Problems or BonusesBonus: We thought the shared pool would be a problem but it was really a bonus because the kids met others and had playmates. Interesting to talk to others too. Little extras in apartment. We loved the wine and olive oil and daily replenishment of milk, cereal and cookies. Issue: It was a bit more remote than we would have liked, but we got over it. Agency and Representatives (and price)Booked direct. Very responsive and helpful onsite people. They took the booking too. Great English. It was better than we thought initially. Note from SlowTrav: This property is also represented by several agencies. Do you recommend this vacation rental to others? In a heartbeat. Great place for Antinori winery story too. Once this place is finished (restaurant not open and units still being built), it will be a hit. I hope the prices don't go up. Right now it is good value for the money. I've stayed in Tuscany four other times, and this is the place I would return first. Things to do in this areaRestaurants: Try La Piazza (best meal this trip), Ristorante Lamole( best meal last trip), Osteria Brolio, Cantinetta Rignale. Go see Dario and La Cipressana (cheese) and Cennatoio (wine) in Panzano and Forno in Greve for best Torta di Nonna in all of Tuscany. Cantinetta Antinori in Florence to try all great Antinori wines by the glass and great pappa pomodoro This review is the opinion of a Slow Travel member and not of slowtrav.com. |
