Review 3133: At Home in Rome, San Lorenzo in Damaso Terrace

Review by lalabbott from NY

1bed/1bath apartment near Campo dei Fiori, Rome

Oct 07, 5 days

Best location! A couple blocks (three minute walk) to Campo dei Fiori, five to 10 minutes to Piazza Navona (if you don't get twisted around in the charming, windy streets). Easy walks to all the major sites!

Nearby Amenities

So many cute shops on via dei Pellegrino, coffee and croissants nearby, ATM a block away. So many restaurants in Campo dei Fiori and surrounding area.

The House/Apartment

Small building, didn't seem particularly historical. One apartment per floor, our apartment was on the top floor (5th). No lift. Very quiet and secure building.

You can view the apartment directly: San Lorenzo.

The apartment on the top floor is the only one that has access to the rooftop terrace which is quite large, with two tables, potted plants and herbs, and a view of the neighboring rooftops!

Furnishings/Cleanliness/Living Areas

This apartment is incredibly charming! Small but so charming. The pictures on the website are very accurate. Place was pretty clean, and although not "luxurious," it was certainly comfy and adequate.

The bedroom is so charming, brightly decorated and filled with pretty trinkets like teacups and pitchers on the shelves (as is the rest of the apartment). The bed in the bedroom is very firm. The sofa bed is small but I found it comfy, if a little squeaky. The sofa bed is actually in the kitchen, not shocking to me as I live in NYC and have seen bathrooms in the kitchen. Both rooms are quiet, except for some minor noise from neighbors in nearby buildings.

Bathroom has the tiniest shower I have ever seen! I cannot imagine a grown man showering there without problems, but it was fine for me and my mother.

Kitchen is usable although we enjoyed the local restaurants so much we didn't really use it.

Problems or Bonuses

The size of the shower was a surprise. We had some difficulties getting our clothes out of the washing machine. I was afraid I was going to have to leave my load there, as it seemed to be locked until mysteriously opening...

Agency and Representatives (and price)

My contact at At Home in Rome was responsive and helpful. The owner of the apartment, Letezia, who met us to give us the keys and show us around was SO CHARMING and funny, although she did not speak more than 10 words of English and we speak the same amount of Italian! After meeting us at the door, she grabbed my suitcase and carried it up five flights of stairs, in high heels, like it was nothing! She is great.

Do you recommend this vacation rental to others?

I would absolutely recommend this apartment to anyone who wants to stay in the BEST location and doesn't mind five flights of stairs. We figured it would help us burn off all the pasta, pizza and gelato.

Things to do in this area

Rome is at your fingertips at this location. Eating, shopping, sight-seeing. It's perfect!
