Vacation rentals in Italy (villas, farms, estates, agriturismo, apartments)
Review 3165: Ville in Italia, Il Gelsomino
1bed/2bath apartment in Praiano, Campania
October 2007, 1 week
The apartment was in Praiano, a small town between Amalfi and Postiano. It was more residential and less touristy than Amalfi or Postiano and we liked that very much. The residents of the town were very welcoming.
The town is on a steep hill, so you have to be in good shape, but we liked the exercise. There is a little bus that runs through Praino and on to Postiano that stops very near the apartment.
The apartment itself is in a building that has about four apartments. The owner lives right next door.
There were two grocery stores with fresh produce within two blocks of the apartment, and a butcher not far from there. The restaurants were a little further. You either had to take the bus or walk up and down a steep hill to get to them.
The apartment was newly renovated and in excellent shape. It was very quiet, and had a large deck with an incredible view. I think there were about four other apartments in the building.
There was a private terrace with room for two large deck chairs, and a table that sat six. It had an incredible view. No pool.
The furniture was comfortable and in excellent shape. The apartment was spotless. Plenty of chairs for everyone. Best couch and TV we had in the five weekly rentals we had on this trip.
Bedroomm was small but adequate, and the bed was quite comfortable. There were two large bathrooms, one with a tub -- a nice surprise for a one bedroom.
It was the best kitchen we've ever had in a rental. Full sized fridge and stove, oven, microwave and dishwasher. It was well equipped. I cooked full meals and found everything I needed. Plenty of pots, good knives, a selection of glasses and dishers.
Problems or Bonuses
I was surprised by how spacious it was. I also didn't realize how easy it would be to get around without a car.
Agency and Representatives (and price)
Thw owner lived right next door and was there to greet us. She speaks English well, and was helpful without being intrusive. The place was better than I had imagined after viewing the photos. We paid $810 for a week in October of 2007.
Do you recommend this vacation rental to others?
I would stay there again, and I would recommend to a friend.
Things to do in this area
It's a great place to chill out. We cooked our own meals, and took day trips to Amalfi, Postiano and Pompeii. You can also get to Capri or Naples for a day if you'd like.
There is an excellent hike from Praiano to Postiano that I would highly recommend (unless you have a problem with heights).
