3bed/2bath house near Fiesole, Florence WhenOctober 20-26, one week LocationThe house was located outside of Florence, next to San Domenico and very close to Fiesole. The views from the second floor were wonderful. The house has lots of grounds and an orchard, and is gated. It was a very quiet location. Nearby AmenitiesThe closeness of everything we needed was extraordinary. The bus stop was five minutes from the house. The bus wasn't necessarily on schedule, but did come by every 15-20 minutes and took you into Florence with stops at key places including the railroad station. Within a 10 minute walk we had access to the local stores in San Domenico. We liked shopping with the butcher, baker, dairy and produce vendors. A supermarket was easy to get to by car, but a very busy place so we didn't go to often. The House/ApartmentThe house was in good shape. It is spacious and comfortable. The owner and her family live in separate sections of the house -- totally divided from the section we rented. Their presence was never a problem and the owner was so helpful and her English is superb. The bedrooms are on the second floor with a very large bathroom. A second bath is on the main floor. You can walk out to the patio from the living room. We did run out of hot water once but I suspect that was due to running the dish washer at the same time that my daughter was taking one of her long showers. You can view the house directly: Filomena. GardenThere is a private outdoor area that is partly shaded and partly sunny. There is no pool. We also had a parking space for our car that was off the street. Furnishings/Cleanliness/Living AreasThe furniture and especially the beds were all in good shape. The house was clean, but a few cob webs in the corners. Plenty of chairs in all rooms. Bedrooms/BathroomsThe beds and baths were above average for rental properties. KitchenGreat knives and good pots and pans, not as many large ones as I needed, but we were able to manage. The dishes and silver were of good quality. We had no problems with the gas stove top and the electric oven. We cooked our evening meals there every night. Problems or BonusesI was surprised with the quietness and the spaciousness of the property. I wished we could have stayed for two weeks. Agency and Representatives (and price)The agency was responsive and provided us a fairly accurate view of the property. The owner was on site and her English was great. Do you recommend this vacation rental to others?I would stay here again and recommend to my best friend. Not sure small children would be totally comfortable here. Things to do in this areaDuring our stay we spent three days in Florence and three days on trips to Lucca, Siena and Chianti. We alternated - one day in Florence and one day out. We walked to Fiesole which has great views and the interesting antiquities. Mostly we relaxed. This review is the opinion of a Slow Travel member and not of slowtrav.com. |
