Review 3184: Rentvillas, Terra di Siena 2

Review by Vallerie from NY

Apartments on an estate, Tuscany Chianti

Sep. 2007, 1 week

The villa was located in a small town (Costafabbri) on the outskirts of Siena. The property was a bit challenging to find the first time (may have been the jet lag and the error in the printed directions). However, being lost in Italy is always an adventure that usually ends up in making a wonderful discovery!

Nearby Amenities

The nearest grocery store and restaurants were (for my group) not in walking distance. The road is not pedestrian friendly. The drive only takes about 10 minutes. Parking is relatively easy in Costafabbri.

The House/Apartment

The apartment was a beautiful ground floor unit. It was not connected directly to another unit (no shared walls). I am not sure of the age of history of the property. It was very quiet. The apartment housed two bedrooms on one side of the unit and a third bedroom on the opposite side of the unit. The rooms were all furnished quited nicely. The living room and kitchen were located in the center of the unit. The large living room had a lovely dining table and buffet. The table easily accommodated the four people in our group. One bathroom was located between the two bedrooms and the other was located en suite in the third bedroom. Each were equipped with a shower.

You can view the property directly: Terra di Siena.

The path leading up to the front door and small terrace that was equipped with an outdoor grill and seating was lined with a hedge of rosemary on one side, and a hedge of lavender on the other. It was fabulous. The front of the unit, adjacent to the terrace was surrounded by flower beds that included lovely rose bushes. A hummingbird moth would play in those bushes each morning. It was a joy to behold. The pool was located about the equivalent of a city block away from this unit. Beautiful pool, patio and view from the pool. The gardens surrounding the pool area and walk to the pool were also magnificent.

Furnishings/Cleanliness/Living Areas

The living room furniture was in good shape, and consisted of a love seat and two chairs. The villa was clean and in very good condition.

The third bedroom actually had a couch that was used to sleep on. It was big enough for one adult only, and was really very comfortable. One bedroom contained two twin beds and the third bedroom contained one full/queen size bed. All were comfortable.

The kitchen was great! It had a washing machine, dishwasher, gas four-burner cook-top, small but adequate refrigerator and plenty of counter space. We cooked full meals in this kitchen, using the wonderful kitchen tools and other equipment that was provided. There were plenty of glasses, dishes, serving pieces, etc.

Problems or Bonuses

For me, the bad surprise was the cats that roamed the property and accosted you each time you left or arrived at the property. One jumped on the roof of our car, startled me so much that the car door closed on my hand and required a trip to the hospital in Siena. We were wishing that the unit contained driving directions to a medical facility, as we had a bit of a challenge in finding someone who could point us in the right direction.

Agency and Representatives (and price)

I have used Rentvillas many times and overall have always been pleased with the properties they represent. We had a problem with an apartment in Florence a few years ago and Rentvillas not only discounted our weekly rental charge, they discontinued representing the property!

The woman who met us at the villa did speak English quite well, she was friendly and somewhat helpful. We didn't ask, nor did she offer to explain how to use the appliances in the unit. We did eventually figure them out!

The reality of the place outpaced the published information!

Do you recommend this vacation rental to others?

We would stay at Terra di Siena again in a heartbeat, and have all ready recommended it to friends.

Things to do in this area

There was a very good and inexpensive restaurant in Costafabbri, however I do not remember the name of the place. Costafabbri is quite small, and this little restaurant was on a corner. Easy to find, even without the name!
