2bed/2.5bath house near Todi, Umbria WhenMay, 2002, 1 week LocationCasa Luna is a wonderful little house in the 12th-century hamlet of Canonica Vecchia, a 5-minute drive from Todi. It was very private and quiet. Nearby AmenitiesThere is a small village within walking distance that has a general store and a public telephone. The nearest supermarket is about a 15-minute ride. Todi, with many shops, small botegas and restaurants, is about a 10-minute drive. The House/ApartmentThe house is a small old stone farmhouse extremely well-maintained. GardenThe garden was spectacular for a multitude of reasons. It was obvious that the owner, who lived in a separate house next door, had a green thumb. While sitting under a vine-covered loggia apart from the house, with a super view of Todi in the distance, you feel as if you are in an arboreteum. Being that it was May, the colors in the garden were breath-taking. The statuary and fencing with flowering vines surrounded the open area. There is a large swimming pool below the loggia area which hugs the side of the hill facing Todi. Furnishings/Cleanliness/Living AreasThe house was cheerful and cozy with comfortable furniture and an interesting blend of antique pieces. There is one couch in the living room, an assortment of chairs and a dining room table at the end with chairs as well. There was a satellite TV and a working fireplace. Bedrooms/BathroomsThe two bedrooms are on the second floor and have great views of the countryside. One bathroom is small but has a shower and a bathtub. The other bathroom is larger with a stall shower. Both bathrooms have windows. The beds were very comfortable and were decorated with really pretty country-French linens, blankets and towels. KitchenThe modern kitchen was light and airy with a separate sliding door out to the loggia. The appliances were modern and any size meal could easily be prepared. There was a refigerator/freezer and a dishwasher. It was very well-stocked. The owner even left a great bottle of Umbrian wine for our arrival. Problems or BonusesA good point to note is that there were screens on the windows and fans. We would have liked to have a telephone on hand so that we would have felt more accessible to family as well as being able to use our laptop. There was also a clothes washer. We liked the idea that there was a bathroom on the first floor so that we didn't have to walk upstairs. Agency and Representatives (and price)Italian Vacation Villas was a pleasure to deal with. Having never rented a house in another country I was somewhat leary. Alice was very helpful and supportive. The house we rented was even better than it was portrayed because the setting was so spectacular. Do you recommend this vacation rental to others? We would most definitely recommend this rental. The owner, who lived next door, was very helpful and did not impose herself on us. She really kept to herself. The house really felt like a home in its furnishings and atmosphere. It was obvious that the owner took pride. Things to do in this areaSee my Umbria restaurant reviews. This review is the opinion of a Slow Travel member and not of slowtrav.com. |
