Review 3195: Drawbridge to Europe, Ref# 1690
4bed/4bath apartment near Santa Croce, Florence
September 1-22 2007, three weeks
The apartment is located at 2 Vigna Vecchia. On a quiet street near Santa Croce in the historic section of Florence, in a 15 century palazzo, this apartment was ideally located very close to the Arno, no more than a 25 minute walk from anyplace in the city.
The apartment was next to Vivoli, one block from the Bargello, two minutes from Santa Croce, five minutes from the Arno, 10 minutes from the Ponte Vecchio. The street was quiet and there was no late night noise.
There are several small markets within one block and a supermarket, Stanza, about three blocks away. There are several places for coffee within a block or two. We walked to all of the restaurants, the farthest being about 30 minutes on the far end of the Oltrarno. There is no need for a car at all in Florence. Driving in the city is impossible.
The apartment was in a 15 century palazzo that was renovated about seven or eight years ago. There are seven or eight apartments in the building. Ours was about 3500 square feet! It was on the second floor. There was a small elevator. We had a huge living room, a dining room, full kitchen, powder room and three bedrooms, each with their own bath. The upper floor had a large master suite with very large closets and a private bath. Thee was also a small laundry room and an area for ironing. The ceilings were 20 feet or so with the original beams and frescoes on the walls. It was fully air-conditioned.
You can view the apartment directly: Ref #1690.
There was a tiny outdoor sitting area on another floor which was not worth using.
The furniture was in excellent shape with three comfortable couches. The apartment was very clean and the maid service good and efficient. Weekly change of linens and cleaning was included, but you can have cleaning at extra cost as often as you want. There was plenty of seating for us and our family.
Beds were comfortable and the baths were very nice. The master suite bathroom only had a shower and there was no curtain so it made for a wet floor.
We used the kitchen for breakfast and some lunches. It was well equipped. It certainly could be used for cooking full meals.
Problems or Bonuses
We were surprised how large it was and how much the frescoes and beams added to our enjoyment.
Agency and Representatives (and price)
We booked through Drawbridge to Europe. Karin was most helpful and efficient. She answered all of our questions promptly and honestly. She had visited the property herself and her observations were accurate. It was an absolute pleasure to deal with her and her company. We also rented a car from an agency on there website. Again, the owner was prompt and helpful and the rate we got was the best we found.
The on site person spoke very good English and worked for the local company, Window on Italy. They were also very efficient and responded to our needs very promptly.
Do you recommend this vacation rental to others?
We would stay here again and certainly recommend it to our best friend. I would highly recommend Drawbridge to Europe without hesitation.
