Review 320: Tuscan Enterprises, Agresto

Review by Edna from NY

2bed/2bath house near Siena, Tuscany Siena

May, 2002, 1 week

Agresto sits on a hilltop surrounded by 7 hectares of land that is entirely fenced in to give maximum privacy. It is 3 kms from Siena and is very tranquil in a beautiful setting.

Nearby Amenities

Less than 1 km away are basic food shops. About a 5-minute drive is a large supermarket and other shops and restaurants.

The House/Apartment

This is a beautiful 1200's stone barn that has been restored and turned into an independent house. It is a tri-level. You enter on the middle level through double doors. This level has a very large living/dining room with wood beams and 20 foot high ceilings. There are 2 additional doors leading outside to a terrace that surrounds the house. You go downstairs to the kitchen which has its own doorway that leads to a separate washer/dryer building and then down a brief hallway to the master bedroom with a large ensuite bathroom. There is a doorway leading out to a separate patio with a table and chairs. Upstairs, a few steps, is the second smaller bedroom with an ensuite bathroom as well. On this level is also another large sitting area.

There was a lovely sitting area outside the master bedroom but the terrace that surrounds the house could easily have been used as well. The large pool and cabana house with a shower was located in between the rental and the owner's villa.

Furnishings/Cleanliness/Living Areas

The house is impeccably furnished in high standard and more than ample. It was immaculate.

The downstairs bedroom has a new king-sized bed. The other bedroom has twin beds that could be easily made into a double and wood-beamed ceiling. All were very comfortable. The downstairs bathroom is large with a separate shower stall and a Jacuzzi bathtub. The upstairs bathroom is complete with a bathtub also.

The spacious kitchen is fully equipped with a gas range, oven, dishwasher, and fridge with freezer. It was fully stocked with all the accoutrements necessary. We ate breakfast there and enjoyed many dinners as well.

Problems or Bonuses

It wasn't a problem for us being there in May but there were no screens on the windows or doors. The owner was a pleasure - very friendly and very helpful although he spoke no English. We had trouble with our laptop and making the right connections and he really tried hard to remedy the problem. He has 2 delightfully friendly dogs, Bianchi and Nero, that we enjoyed having around as they wandered from one property to the other. If anyone was fearful he would easily keep the gates to his villa closed. The dogs were a mush though - and I don't particularily like dogs but I loved them!

Agency and Representatives (and price)

The agency, Tuscan Enterprises, was very helpful and also provided restaurant and shopping recommendations. We had the pleasure of actually meeting all of the people there as we serendipitously passed their office when we were in Radda. Agresto was even more wonderful than the photographs we had been looking at for months. The house and property were even more spacious than portrayed.

Do you recommend this vacation rental to others?

We loved the house and the proximity to Siena, Florence and the Chianti region. The house was very comfortable and truly felt it was our home away from home!
