Review 3255: Summer In Italy, Villa Sara

Review by Mary H from NY

2bed/2bath apartment in Praiano, Campania

July 2007, 1 week

Located in Praiano, a lovely small town just south of Positano and North of Amalfi. The Villa is a multi unit property but it is a quiet town/area, we never heard our neighbors once and only saw them when we left the villa a few times. The area was excellent, great location, can walk to the main part of town (though many steps but not a problem), or take a bus to neighboring towns. From neighboring towns you can take a train or a ferry.

Nearby Amenities

Walk to nearby groceries, great store near by with fresh produce, wine cellar, anything you would possibly need. Excellent restaurants are also a short walk. Again, there are steps to deal with but they did not present a problem to us. We welcomed the exercise and keeping trim and it allowed us to eat anything we wanted!

The House/Apartment

The villa was in beautiful condition. The owner, Lucia, was there to greet us and tell us about the town. The villa was clean and spacious, exactly as it looks on the website. We really enjoyed the space it afforded us, especially the huge terrace. We had every breakfast on our terrace and finished off the day with a glass of wine, and if we weren't to tired, a card game at the end of the evening. The villa was very comfortable. With four girls, it was great to have two full bathrooms as well.

You can view the apartment directly: Villa Sara.

No garden, no pool. But the terrace served as an excellent place to relax and overlooked the sea. Very relaxing! Better than a garden. We could walk to the beach or walk a short distance and hop on the bus to get to the beach.

Furnishings/Cleanliness/Living Areas

Everything was in good shape, very clean and comfortable. Ceiling fans in both bedrooms and no need to even use the air conditioning. We had nice warm days and comfortable nights for sleeping. Plenty of seating for the four of us, actually more than we needed but it was nice to be able to spread out. Bedding and bathroom linens all clean.

Beds were comfortable and each bedroom had a bathroom just outside the door. Bathrooms were great, no tub, just showers but no problems and everything in working order.

Kitchen was big and had everything we needed. Just enough pans, dishes, etc. for four. The kitchen table as well as the dinning room table large double doors that open onto the terrace. There is also a dining table on the terrace. We sat outside at every opportunity given the perfect temperature and beautiful view!

Problems or Bonuses

No surprises.

Tips - bring shampoo, conditioner, body soap, toilet paper and dish soap. Of course we brought our own personal toiletries but we did pick up dish soap, paper towels and toilet paper at the nearby grocery store. At the store we were also able to get bottled water, fresh produce and they even had their own wine cellar in the basement.

Agency and Representatives (and price)

I dealt with a few people on-line, my primary contact was Luca and she was excellent. We communicated in English, no language problems what so ever. The published information and prior guest feedback was exact. We paid $1,600 at the time of our stay(July 2007). It was a fair price. If you stay at a similar villa in the larger/neighboring towns you'll pay more.

Do you recommend this vacation rental to others?

I would HIGHLY recommend Villa Sara (unless steps present a problem for you). I hope to get back there soon and next time I will stay for a few weeks. I have recommended Villa Sara as well as the website to everyone I know.

Things to do in this area

The list of things to do is tremendous. Praiano is a small town where you'll get to know the local grocer, restaurant owners (we had two great meals at LaStrada Ristorante- sit on the balcony - you won't be disappointed in your meal, the service or the view). We liked the fact it was a small town and offered very easy access, an inexpensive bus rides, to the neighboring towns of Positano, Amalfi, Ravello and Sorrento. Easy access to the Isle of Capri (a must do with a nice boat ride there and back). A day trip to Pompeii. After a week at Villa Sara we spent a week in Rome. I actually enjoyed Praiano and the surrounding area more than the city of Rome. The water, the people, the food, everything and everybody was so nice and memorable. I've traveled a great deal in the U.S. and a bit in Europe. Praiano/the Amalfi Coast is my favorite!
