4bed/4bath house near Rapalano Terme, Tuscany South WhenSeptember 20 - 27, 2007, One week LocationMontecamerini is located right above the thermal town of Rapalano Terme. It is a typical Italian town and a nice walk down the hill from the perched position of the villa. This location is ideal because the east - west highway from Perugia to Siena is very accessible, so we used it to drive to Siena and took one day trip into Umbria. Montalcino, Montepulciano and Pienza are also easy to reach from this location. Nearby AmenitiesThe views are great from Montecamerini and this means that it is on a hill. It is easy to walk down the hill into Rapalano Terme. We did not go to the thermal center here and the town is fairly basic but authentic. The House/ApartmentThe main building has three bedrooms and three bathrooms. There is also an annex right next door with another double bedroom and bathroom and sofa sleeper which is very comfortable! We found that this worked very well for one couple and their child. The owners live in part of the building and are very helpful. They are not around all of the time. You can view the property directly: Montecamerini. GardenThe outdoor areas are beautiful and there is especially a very nice table for eating outside. We enjoyed our cocktails here every night and enjoyed a brilliant Tuscan sunset. The pool is very dramatic with a great sculpture that is also a fountain. Furnishings/Cleanliness/Living AreasMontecamerini was formerly monks' cells and the building really gives you a feeling of this. It has beamed ceilings and terracotta floors. The level of restoration is excellent. The furnishings and fabrics are high class. Bedrooms/BathroomsI had the sense that this renovation was very recent since the beds were firm - but not too firm - and the furniture was stylish and comfortable. Bathrooms have great tile and were very clean. KitchenWe loved to cook in the evenings and the kitchen is fully functional. Problems or BonusesThe house is air conditioned which we did not need in September. The owners do live on the property so this is not a totally private villa. We liked having them around. Agency and Representatives (and price)We booked through Gira! Italian Vacation Rentals. We liked them very much and felt that we could trust them. Their answers were prompt and they provided excellent service. The owners greeted us when we arrived. They live in the US part of the year so there was no language problem whatsoever. Do you recommend this vacation rental to others? We loved Montecamerini. It was built on an Etruscan tomb so has a fabulous history. The views are to die for. I highly recommend it given that the guests know that it is not totally private because the owners live there too. Things to do in this areaWe loved the Abbey of Monte Oliveto Maggiore - they have Gregorian chants at 6:15pm. This review is the opinion of a Slow Travel member and not of slowtrav.com. |
