Review 3326: Gira! Italian Vacation Rentals, Barchesse
1bed/1bath apartment in Cannaregio, Venice
May 2007, 4 Nights
This apartment is located in the historic neighborhood of Canneregio on the Fondamenta, the sidewalk of the main canal of the district, across from the Tre Archi ferry stop. It is an easy fifteen to twenty minute walk from the railroad station or to San Marco. The area is very quiet, away from the hustle and bustle of the heavily touristed areas. We took our chairs out on the fondamenta each evening, watched the activity on the canal, and enjoyed a glass or two of wine. The living room windows look out onto a lovely garden.
It was about a ten-minute walk to the supermarket. The manager of the property owned a delightful small restaurant just a few feet away.
The apartment was in very good condition and is well-maintained. There was a large living room, with sleep sofa, dining area and small, but well-equipped kitchen. There is no second floor and the entrance is behind a locked gate. The bathroom and bedroom were both good-sized. There was also a clothes washer.
You can view the property directly: Barchesse.
This apartment did not have access to the garden although we could look out on it from the living room windows. There was no pool. As I mentioned earlier, we sat out on the fondamenta but there is a walkway/terrace from the locked gate to the front door where one could also sit.
The apartment was very clean and tidy. The furniture was completely adequate for the two of us, and certainly for two more.
The bed was comfortable, there was good closet space in the bedroom, and the bathroom was roomy.
The kitchen was very well-equipped, clean and efficient.
Problems or Bonuses
We really enjoyed being in this area which had a lot of charm. It was a great refuge at the end of the day after being in the busy tourist areas.
Agency and Representatives (and price)
We can't say enough positive and complimentary things about Gira! This is a delightful property which we would strongly recommend. The on site person does not speak English but we managed very well because of my meager Italian.
Do you recommend this vacation rental to others?
We would gladly return to Barchesse. Our only caveat is that Venice is expensive but if you do as we do and cook at home as much as possible the city is truly la Serenissima. There is so much to do and see!
Things to do in this area
Get a good guide book and take advantage of all the fascinating and wonderful sites to see. Don't forget to find out about musical events as well.
