7bed/5bath house in Massa Lubrense near Sorrento, Campania

When

September 2007, one week

Location

The house is near a small village in an area with other residential properties. It is very private as the other near-by properties are not close to the villa. It is located along the coast south of Sorrento in a very beautiful area with great views.

Nearby Amenities

The nearby village, Termini, is within walking distance. It is about a 10 minute walk. The village has a grocery store, drug store, butcher shop and restaurants.

The House/Apartment

The house was in excellent shape. It has four bedrooms and two baths on the second floor; one bedroom and bath, kitchen, dining room, living room, and TV room on the main floor. There were two other private living areas with separate entrances.

One area has two bedrooms, one bath, kitchen, dining area and screened in sitting area. The other has a living room area, one bedroom, another bed in the living room and a bathroom.

You can view the house directly: Il Pozzo.

Garden

There is very nice outside sitting area by the pool. The surrounding grounds are beautiful. There is vegetable and herb garden along with many beautiful flowers and plants.

It is very private outside area with an incredible view of the island of Capri.

Furnishings/Cleanliness/Living Areas

The furniture is in excellent shape and comfortable. The house was very clean and well maintained. There were plenty of chairs to accommodate our group.

Bedrooms/Bathrooms

The bedrooms are nice, good size bedrooms. Some of the beds were a bit uncomfortable but not enough to be a problem.

There are five bathrooms, which was most adequate for our group of eleven.

Kitchen

The kitchen is not large. It is narrow but certainly adequate. It gets crowded with three or more. We cooked in it without a problem. There are plenty of dishes, pots and pans. There are multiple eating areas, two outside and also in the dining room.

We also arranged for a cook for two dinners during our stay at an extra cost. We dined outside with a view of Capri. Wonderful! and the meals were excellent.

Problems or Bonuses

The good surprise is that, overall, the villa exceeded our expectations. It is a beautiful, comfortable place with an incredible view of Capri. The surrounding grounds are wonderful and well maintained. When we first arrived I heard the word "wow" a lot.

Agency and Representatives (and price)

The booking agency treated us extremely well. The cost for the week was $3965 with the week beginning September 29th. In addition to the villas available on Gira's web site, they also have an agency relationship with Ville in Italia and can book villas that are available on their web site. That is why the direct link above goes to Ville in Italia's website. The property is not listed directly on Gira's.

Their on site person was outstanding. She spoke excellent English and was most helpful in every aspect. Her pleasant and positive attitude was a pleasure.

She booked us a private boat to Capri that was a highlight of the trip. She also booked transfers for us to Naples. Whatever you needed she got it for you.

I can't say enough good things about this lovely woman.

The reality of the villa exceeded the published information. The website pictures do not do this place justice.

Do you recommend this vacation rental to others?

I would stay here again and would recommend it to a friend.

There would be one caveat. The cleaning fees, based on my experience, are excessive. There is an obligatory cleaning fee of 325 per week and a 200 euros final cleaning fee. The weekly fee is for five hours of cleaning for five days.

I thought that having someone there cleaning for five hours a day would be intrusive but in reality it turned out not to be that way.

I think you should just include the cleaning fee as part of the weekly cost when comparing this villa with any other options.

Things to do in this area

We took several day trips during our stay: Pompeii, Amalfi Coast (i.e., Positano, Amalfi, Ravello), Capri and Sorrento. There are also hiking trails that can be accessed directly from the villa.

We enjoyed excellent meals at various restaurants in the area.

It is a beautiful area and does not lack in things to do.
