Apartments on estate near Sarnano, Marche

When

16 - 23 Feb 2008, 1 week

Location

What an incredible place to experience real Italy. Superb apartment everything about it lifts the spirit and is truly relaxing and absorbing whether inside or looking at the views outside. Located a short drive from Sarnano and with wonderful views towards the town. Great balance between being in the countryside yet having a small town nearby with amenities.

Nearby Amenities

A short drive (2-3 minutes) to Sarnano but could walk. Supermarkets in town plus we found a number of places to eat and drink.

Swim pool - as well as the large pool at the Villa - for those staying out of season (we were there in Feb 2008), there is an indoor public pool with main pool and children's pool nearby.

Skiing - Sassotetto is nearby. Snow wasn't up to much when we were there but 75 minutes drive to Monte Prata and we found the perfect small resort for first time skiers with a beautiful drive through the Sibillinis en route.

The House/Apartment

We had one of the four apartments - ours was two bed plus sofa-bed in sitting room. Also had private balcony with amazing views of Sarnano and countryside. Recently restored with nice blend of tradition (beams, stone walls etc) with modern (kitchen, shower-room). Very nice living space - large kitchen/diner area plus sitting room with wood burner for winter months. For the kids there is TV with lots of channels (Sky) and a great selection of DVDs - for those moments you just want to plug the kids in for two hours and have quiet time! Owners live in one of the apartments - very useful for advice, help, ideas etc ... on tap!

Garden

Lots of space - great big shared pool (14m long) and plenty of places to sit and relax around it. A few other sitting areas around the building.

Furnishings/Cleanliness/Living Areas

All new - in good shape and clean. No complaints at all on the comfort front. Sofa-bed was used all week and was a success. As we were there in February, heating worked extremely well with central heating and also a wood burner.

Bedrooms/Bathrooms

Bedrooms very nice decor. Both bedrooms have high ceilings and part stone walls. Beds were new and comfortable. Bathroom in our apartment had a shower - plenty of hot water.

Kitchen

Modern and with plenty of stuff so that it was easy to stay in and cook - we did that regularly and oven/hob great and dishwasher useful. Kitchen in open plan dining area worked very well and made for social evenings while cooking ... and clearing up after!

Problems or Bonuses

Bonus - after seven days with three kids we came back refreshed and relaxed! Staying in a beautiful building in amazing countryside is a big part of the recipe for that. Having the owners nearby whenever you may want ideas or guidance is a real bonus too. Lots of great info in the apartment - maps, guides etc.

Agency and Representatives (and price)

Direct through owners.

Do you recommend this vacation rental to others?

Absolutely - the place looks terrific in the adverts - but it really is even better when you are there.

Things to do in this area

See above comments - chill out, drink in the local bars, swim, walks (lots of places locally and in the National Park), Ski in National Park in winter months, visit some great hill towns nearby - San Ginesio etc., visit local outdoor markets (virtually on-a-day at some place nearby), drive to the beach (worth it as some very sandy beaches and driving to coast gives a chance to see some great countryside), visit Macerata and Ascoli Piceno.

Locals extremely friendly and helpful - and if you need more ideas there is an excellent Tourist Office in the town (though you will have all the guides in your apartment courtesy of owners!)
