2bed/1bath apartment near Campo dei Fiori, Rome

When

February 2008, 4 nights

Location

Small piazza very close to Campo dei Fiori, just off via dei Giubbonari. Piazza is mainly a parking lot, surrounded by residential buildings and jewelry stores.

Nearby Amenities

Many restaurants, market, stores, and bakery within easy walking distance. The nearest grocery store is Punto SMA on via del Monte della Farina, a short walk from the apartment.

The House/Apartment

An attractive old building with apartments facing an inner courtyard. Seems to be mainly a residential building, we didn't see any other tourists while we were there.

The apartment was very quiet. No traffic noise at all, just a few sounds from the neighbours.

The windows all looked out onto the walls of nearby buildings, but when the curtains were open a little sunlight actually came in at times.

You can view the apartment directly: Monte di Pieta.

Garden

No outside area.

Furnishings/Cleanliness/Living Areas

The apartment was clean and in good condition. The furniture and dťcor was really very nice for a rental apartment. There was a comfortable sofa and chair in the living room, and table for four. There was plenty of lighting.

The wireless Internet worked perfectly, the flat screen TV had a couple of English channels, and a CD/DVD player. Washer and dryer had not had the lint/water emptied out from last tenant, but once we did that, they worked fine, and had English instructions.

The radiators didnít seem to be on, but each room had one of those electric heater/air conditioner units mounted near the ceiling with a remote control. We used the heating a bit and it worked well.

Bedrooms/Bathrooms

The main bedroom was spacious. The bed was firm and in good shape, with good bedside lighting and an armoire for hanging clothes.

The second bedroom is really a small den with a pull-out sofa. A little cramped, when the bed is pulled out we couldnít close the bedroom door or open the armoire, but it was OK for one person, better than sleeping in the living room.

We did not have the problem mentioned in other reviews with the outside door entering the bedroom. We were able to use the main door to the apartment.

Bathroom: No tub, but nice big marble tiled shower with glass door, and vanity with some counter space. Plenty of towels, hot water, and window that opened.

Kitchen

The kitchen is part of the main room. Custom cabinets, full sized fridge, microwave, dishwasher and three burner stove. Well equipped with the basics, and everything matched as seemed quite new. The only thing that we missed was a bread knife. (We bought one at the market and left it there).

Problems or Bonuses

The apartment was not on the first floor as advertised, but two floors up from the ground, so there were more stairs that we expected. Not enough to be a problem, but it may be for some.

Agency and Representatives (and price)

Agency and Rep: We booked on line through Romeby.com, which was easy to do, using a credit card number for security. We paid cash on arrival.

The apartment looked just like the pictures on the website.

The representative who met us said that he was from Sleepinitaly.com, which I am still kind of confused about. We have always booked directly with owners before so using an agency was new to us.

In any case, it wasnít a problem. We emailed the day before with our estimated arrival time, and the representative arrived at about the same time as us. He gave us the keys, instructions for checkout etc., and spent a few minutes making sure the wireless Internet worked. He also left us his name and phone number in case of emergency. He spoke English very well.

We paid the low-season price of Ä150 per night for three people. There were no extra charges.

Do you recommend this vacation rental to others?

If quiet is important this apartment would be a good choice. We kind of missed the sights and sounds that you get with a window on to the street.

We would stay there again though, as it was comfortable and attractive, well located, and had all the amenities that we like to have.

Things to do in this area

We enjoy this area because we really feel as if we are in the middle of Rome, and can walk to almost everything we want to see.
